Only the iPhone 16 series or iPhone 15 Pro models are eligible to receive the Apple Intelligence or AI features. iOS 18.1 will be bringing these AI features to eligible iPhones but there are plenty of reasons for owners of older iPhone models to upgrade too. That’s because iOS 18.1 will bring several other features to the table that you can use. Let’s take a quick look at them.

Table of Contents
1. Better Control Center
iOS 18 brought a redesigned Control Center to the forefront. iOS 18.1 will make it better with all the connectivity options or toggles available individually. This means you don’t have to use Apple’s default page but rather, you can design your own as you see fit.
2. Call Recording
Another reason why old iPhone users should upgrade to iOS 18.1. All your Android fans who have been making fun of you will shut up now. Well, sort of. iPhones can now record all calls but there is a catch. Both parties will hear an audio note or disclaimer before the call recording begins.
Samsung and some other Android OEMs do it discreetly where the recording begins right off the bat but no one is the wiser. Still, it is better than not having a call recorder on your iPhone.
3. RCS Support
Apple did the right thing by integrating RCS into the iPhone’s Messaging app. The blue vs green bubble has been raging for far too long now. However, RCS is not supported by all carriers yet. With iOS 18.1, some new carriers will be added to this list. Watch out for this space to know more when it comes.
4. Sleep Apnea
An iPhone with iOS 18.1 won’t cut it here. You will also need an Apple Watch Series 9, Watch Ultra 2, or Watch Series 10 running watchOS 11.1 for this to work. If you have one that supports it, you will be able to track sleep apnea. Also, sleep apnea is currently not approved in all nations. Ensure your government or national health body has approved it otherwise, it won’t work.
5. Drag-n-Drop Using iPhone Mirroring
iPhone mirroring will mirror or display your iPhone screen right on your MacBook so you can view and use it without lifting your phone. iOS 18.1 brings a new feature to it. iPhones running iOS 18.1 and MacBooks running macOS Sequoia 15.1 will be able to use the drag-n-drop feature to move files, and photos, for example. We have a guide on enabling and using iPhone Mirroring on iPhone and Mac.
And that’s it, folks.
