Have you reached the Ancient Sands biome in Abyss? In this location, you will meet some NPCs that will give you quests, and one of them is Marcus. He will ask you to find a Fish Bone in Abyss. You might get confused about how to get it because it’s one of those items that doesn’t just spawn like a normal fish. In this guide, I will show you how to get Fish Bone in Abyss.

Fish Bone Abyss

What is Fish Bone in Abyss and why Do You Need It?

Fish Bone is a quest item in Abyss. You can’t sell it or trade it with other players. It exists just to complete quests given by NPCs in the Ancient Sands biome. Two NPCs, Marcus and Grumpy Hank, will ask you for Fish Bone across multiple quests. The more quests you complete, the more Fish Bones they’ll ask for over time.

However, you can just find this item like the ducks or treasure chests in the game. So it’s worth knowing how to farm it early.

How to Get Fish Bone in Abyss

Fish Bone can only be found in the Ancient Sands biome. You won’t get it anywhere else in the game, so head there first before you start farming. Now, while fishing in Ancient Sands, there is around a 20% chance that a Treasure Chest icon appears on your fishing mini-game bar. When you see that icon, you have a chance to earn a bonus reward, either a Fish Bone or a Cactus Geode (which is needed to complete Virelia’s quest line).

To actually get a reward, you need to fill the Treasure Chest’s internal bar before you finish the main fishing bar. If you complete the main fishing bar without filling the chest bar first, you will miss out on the rewards entirely. So remember these steps. Also, Ancient Sands fish are harder to catch, so you’d better be ready with a good tube and gun.

One thing to keep in mind, even if you complete the chest mini-game, getting a Fish Bone isn’t 100% guaranteed. So keep on grinding for this.

Best Fish to Target for Farming Fish Bone

Not all fish are the same when it comes to farming Fish Bone, either. The key is picking fish with smooth and predictable mini-game bars. This will give you more control while managing both bars at once. The best fish to target are Cods and Pompanos. Usually, they spawn near Crazy Jeff’s Shop. Cod has a smooth bar and is pretty easy to control, and Pompano also has stable movement.

Avoid fish with jumpy bars. Those make it way harder to split your attention between the main bar and the chest bar at the same time. If you don’t know which ones are Cod and Pompano, you can always buy the Fish Radar from Richard NPC in the Forgotten Dome to help you name the fish whenever you are fishing.

Fish Bone in Abyss might seem confusing at first, but once you understand the chest mini-game, farming it becomes pretty easy to do. Stick to Cods and Pompanos, manage both bars carefully, and upgrade your gun/harpoon to make things easier. Good luck with those Marcus and Grumpy Hank quests!
