How to Get Moss in Abyss

Moss is one of the items in Abyss that sounds simple to get, but can actually take a while to farm. It’s a soft green plant fragment, and a few NPCS will ask you for it during their quest lines. If you don’t know where to find it, you could waste a lot of time fishing in the wrong spots. This guide covers exactly where to find Moss in Abyss, how to get it faster, and what you need it for.

How to Get Moss in Abyss

There’s only one place in the entire game where Moss can drop, and that’s the Spirit Roots area. Don’t waste your time fishing anywhere else. The Ocean, or other biomes, none of them will give you Moss. Just like how Fish Bones can only be found in Ancient Sands. If you don’t know where Spirit Roots is, you can buy the mini map first from Crazy Jeff’s Shop for $2,450.

Once you’re there, the key thing to know is that you’re not fishing for Moss directly. You are actually fishing for chests. While you’re in the middle of the fishing mini-game, a chest icon can pop up on the bar. When it does, make sure you grab it.

When you open one of those fishing chests in Spirit Roots, you will get one of two things: Moss or a Rooted Geode (which is needed for Virelia’s long quest lines). It’s basically a random drop between the two, except the Rooted Geode actually drops a little more often. The odds aren’t great, but fishing more is your only real option.

How to Farm Moss Faster

If you keep getting Geodes instead of Moss, these tips should help:

  • Use a Luck Potion before you start fishing. Moss doesn’t have an official rarity list in the game, but it clearly has low drop chances. A Luck Potion boosts your chances of getting chests while fishing, so you can get more shots at Moss.
  • Go after Epic and Legendary fish. Common fish don’t reward chests as often. Rarer fish like Napoleon, Sailfish, and Eyefish tend to drop chests more frequently, giving you more chances to land Moss. However, they are also a bit hard to reel in. So you’d better use a strong gun or harpoon, and make sure your tube has a lot of oxygen capacity, since you need more time to fish them.
  • Don’t leave Spirit Roots. It sounds obvious, but every cast you make outside that biome is a wasted one if you want to farm this item. There’s no reason to leave until you have everything you need.

Which NPCs Need Moss in Abyss?

Right now, Moss only has one purpose: NPC quests. Three different NPCs ask for it: Isolde, Lumi, and Isaac. Isolde and Lumi are both found in the Spirit Roots area, just right after you come out of the Teleporter. Isaac is located on top of the safety area in Spirit Roots. Each quest asks for a different amount of Moss, so it’s smart to hold onto every piece you get.

Outside of these quests, Moss doesn’t have any other use in the game right now. It won’t stack up as a crafting material or anything like that, so all you really need is enough to finish what the NPCs are asking for. For more tips, codes, and game information, check out our Roblox Abyss wiki.
