Races are one of the most important features in Abyss because they give you special abilities and stat boosts that make catching fish easier and help you survive longer underwater. When you start the game, you get a random race, but most players don’t like their first race (like me – I got Poop!) and want to change it. This guide explains exactly how to reroll races in Abyss, how to get the currency you need for rerolls, and everything else you need to know about the race system.

What Are Races in Abyss Roblox?
Races in Abyss work like classes in other games. Each race gives you different passive abilities and stat bonuses that help you play better. Some races increase your damage, others give you more oxygen so you can stay underwater longer, and some give you special abilities like reflecting damage or reviving when you die. There are different rarity levels for races:
- Common – Poop, Coral, Elf
- Uncommon – Monkey, Cyclops, Fish
- Rare – Puffer, Spirit, Narwhal
- Epic – Crab, Anglerfish
- Legendary – Vampire Squid, Shark
- Mythical – Kraken, Sea Angel
The higher the rarity, the better the abilities and the harder it is to get that race. Mythical races like Kraken and Sea Angel are extremely rare but have the strongest abilities in the game. Everyone starts as Human race, which has no bonuses at all. That’s why rerolling is so important – you need a better race to progress efficiently.

How to Reroll Races in Abyss
Before you can reroll races, you need to complete the tutorial first. Once you finish the tutorial, the race reroll system unlocks. Here’s how to reroll your race step by step:
- Step 1: Look at the top of your screen and click the Races button.
- Step 2: A menu will pop up showing your current race and the reroll options.
- Step 3: You’ll see two buttons: Reroll and Lucky Reroll.
- Step 4: Click either Reroll (costs 100 Star Shards) or Lucky Reroll (costs 450 Star Shards) to change your race.
- Step 5: Your race will change randomly to a new one based on the reroll rates.
- Step 6: If you don’t like the new race, you can reroll again if you have enough Star Shards.
The race you get is completely random based on the rarity percentages. You might get a Common race multiple times in a row, or you might get lucky and pull a Legendary or Mythical race on your first try.

Normal Reroll vs Lucky Reroll
There are two different ways to reroll your race, and they have different costs and different chances:
Normal Reroll (100 Star Shards)
Normal reroll gives you these chances:
- 50% chance for Common races (Poop, Coral, Elf)
- 25% chance for Uncommon races (Monkey, Cyclops, Fish)
- 14% chance for Rare races (Puffer, Spirit, Narwhal)
- 5% chance for Epic races (Crab, Anglerfish)
- 2% chance for Legendary races (Vampire Squid, Shark)
- 0.2% chance for Mythical races (Kraken, Sea Angel)
This is cheaper, but you’ll mostly get Common and Uncommon races. Getting a Legendary or Mythical race from normal reroll is very rare.
Lucky Reroll (450 Star Shards)
Lucky reroll costs more but gives you much better chances at rare races:
- 3% chance for Common races (Poop, Coral, Elf)
- 27% chance for Uncommon races (Monkey, Cyclops, Fish)
- 38% chance for Rare races (Puffer, Spirit, Narwhal)
- 21% chance for Epic races (Crab, Anglerfish)
- 10% chance for Legendary races (Vampire Squid, Shark)
- 1% chance for Mythical races (Kraken, Sea Angel)
This reroll is much better if you’re trying to get Epic, Legendary, or Mythical races. The chances are 4-5 times higher compared to normal reroll. However, it costs 4.5 times more Star Shards.
Which Should You Use?
If you have a lot of Star Shards saved up and want the best chance at rare races, use Lucky Reroll. If you’re low on Star Shards or just starting out, use normal reroll until you build up more shards.
How to Get Star Shards for Rerolling
Star Shards are the currency you need to reroll races. Here are all the ways to get Star Shards in Abyss:
- Redeem Codes: The fastest way to get free Star Shards is by using codes. Check for new codes regularly because the developers release them during updates and special events.
- Complete Achievements: Achievements are one of the best ways to farm Star Shards over time. Click the ribbon icon on the top left of your screen to see all achievements. The more you play, the more achievements you complete, and the more Star Shards you earn. Achievements are tied to normal gameplay activities like catching fish, opening geodes, and exploring the map.
- Fill Out Your Bestiary: The Bestiary is a collection of all the different fish you’ve caught. Every time you catch a new type of fish for the first time, it gets added to your Bestiary. Each new fish you register gives you Star Shards as a reward.
- Open Treasure Chests: Treasure chests are scattered around the map in different zones. When you open a treasure chest, you get rewards that can include 5-15 Star Shards plus XP.
- Complete Quests from NPCs: NPCs around the map give you quests. Completing these quests rewards you with Star Shards. Bigger quests give more Star Shards as rewards.
- Buy Star Shards with Robux: If you don’t want to grind and have Robux to spend, you can buy Star Shard packs in the Exclusive Shop (shopping cart icon):
| Package | Price | Star Shards |
|---|---|---|
| Small Shard Pack | 49 Robux | 100 Star Shards |
| Mid Shard Pack | 129 Robux | 300 Star Shards |
| Big Shard Pack | 549 Robux | 1,500 Star Shards |
| Shard Pack 4 | 1,199 Robux | 4,000 Star Shards |
| Starter Pack | 79 Robux | 500 Star Shards + extras |
| Diver’s Pack | 349 Robux | 1,000 Star Shards + extras |
Only buy Star Shards with Robux if you really want to speed up the process. You can get plenty of free Star Shards just by playing the game.
How to Unlock More Race Slots
By default, you only have one race slot. This means you can only keep one race at a time, and if you reroll, you lose your old race. However, you can unlock additional race slots using Star Shards so you can keep multiple races:
- 1st Slot – Free (default)
- 2nd Slot – Costs 1,000 Star Shards
- 3rd Slot – Costs 5,000 Star Shards

Having multiple race slots is useful because you can keep different races for different situations. For example, you might keep one race that gives extra damage for fighting and another race that gives extra oxygen for deep diving. To unlock race slots, open the Races menu and look for the slot unlock option. You need to save up a lot of Star Shards, so unlocking all three slots takes time unless you spend Robux.
