Abyss Race Tier List – Best Races Ranked

Races in Abyss determine how strong your character is and what special abilities you have. With 16 different races ranging from the basic Human starter race to the ultra-rare Mythical races like Kraken and Sea Angel, choosing which race to aim for when rerolling can be confusing. Each race gives different stat bonuses like damage, oxygen, speed, and cash, plus some have special passive abilities that can completely change how you play. This Abyss Race Tier List ranks all Abyss races from best to worst based on their usefulness.

Our Criteria for Ranking

We ranked races based on four main factors:

  • Passive Abilities – Races with strong passive abilities like Last Breath (revive instead of dying) or Blood Siphon (regenerate oxygen) rank higher because these abilities can save your run or make farming much easier.
  • Stat Bonuses – The amount and type of stat bonuses matter. Races that give multiple useful stats (like oxygen + damage + cash) rank higher than races that only boost one stat slightly.
  • Versatility – Can you use the race in multiple situations? Races that help with both combat and exploration rank higher than races that only work in specific scenarios.
  • Rarity vs Value – Just because a race is rare doesn’t mean it’s good. We ranked based on actual usefulness, not just rarity level. Some Rare races are better than some Epic races depending on your playstyle.

Races that combine strong passive abilities with multiple good stat bonuses and work in any situation rank highest. Races with weak bonuses or very situational passives rank lower.

S Tier – Best Races in Abyss

S tier races are the absolute best in the game. These are the races you should aim for when rerolling because they have the strongest passive abilities and the best combination of stat bonuses. If you get one of these races, stop rerolling and keep it.

KrakenMythical+20% Weight, +15% XP, +15% CashEndless Depths: Increases damage permanently by 0.04% per fish caught (caps at +50%)
Leviathan’s Legacy: After taking lethal damage, regenerate 100% oxygen instead of dying and deal 300% AoE damage (8 minute cooldown)
Sea AngelMythical+10% Speed, +25% Oxygen, +15% CashLast Breath Sprint: Sprinting doesn’t consume oxygen when below 20%
Kinetic Wrath: Gain bonus damage equal to 35% of movement speed
Abyssal Focus: Catching minigame progress speed increases when oxygen falls below 50%
SharkSharkLegendary+20% Damage, -0.4s CooldownBlood Frenzy: Deal 30% more damage when oxygen is below 30%
Sea Sprint: Tube boosts consume 50% less oxygen
Vampire SquidLegendary+20% Oxygen, +10% XPBlood Siphon: Regenerate 10% oxygen based on damage dealt while catching fish (15 second cooldown)

Why S Tier?

Kraken is the single best race in the game. The Endless Depths passive gives you permanent damage increases that stack forever as you catch more fish. By late game, you can have +50% damage permanently, which makes everything faster and easier. Leviathan’s Legacy is essentially a second life that also nukes, making it incredibly powerful for both survival and combat.

Sea Angel is almost as good as Kraken but in different ways. The combination of Last Breath Sprint (infinite sprinting when low on oxygen) and Kinetic Wrath (damage scales with speed) creates a unique playstyle where moving fast makes you do more damage. The +25% oxygen is the highest oxygen bonus in the game, and Abyssal Focus makes catching fish faster when you’re running low on oxygen. This race excels at everything.

Shark is the best pure damage race. The +20% damage buff is massive on its own, but Blood Frenzy adds another +30% when you’re below 30% oxygen, giving you up to 50% total damage increase.

Vampire Squid is the oxygen king. The +20% oxygen gives you more time underwater, and Blood Siphon lets you regenerate oxygen while catching fish, essentially giving you unlimited oxygen as long as you keep catching fish. The +10% XP helps you level faster. This race is perfect for players who want to explore deep zones without constantly worrying about oxygen.

A Tier

A tier races are excellent choices that you should definitely keep if you get them. They have strong abilities and good stat bonuses, though they’re not quite as powerful as S tier races. These races can carry you through the entire game.

NarwhalRare+8% Speed, +15% WeightPiercing Horn: 10% chance to deal double damage

Why A Tier?

Anglerfish is the best race for farming resources and making money. Hunter’s Instinct gives you a 20% chance to double your drops from every fish, which adds up to massive amounts of extra resources over time. The +8% cash bonus and +12% damage make catching fish faster and more profitable. Abyssal Light is a nice quality of life feature that makes exploring dark zones easier.

Crab is the tank race. Iron Shell gives you a 25% chance to completely block incoming damage, which can save your life in dangerous zones. The +15% oxygen and +15% weight give you survivability, and the +5% XP helps you level faster. This race is great for players who like to explore dangerous areas or fight tough enemies.

Spirit has one of the best passive abilities in the game: Last Breath. Getting a second chance when you take lethal damage by regenerating 30% oxygen instead of dying is incredibly valuable, especially in deep zones where one mistake can end your run. The +8% cash and -0.3s cooldown reduction (highest among non-Legendary races) make this race useful even without the passive.

Narwhal is a solid damage race with good mobility. The +8% speed helps you move around faster, and the +15% weight lets you carry more items. Piercing Horn’s 10% chance to deal double damage means you’ll get big damage spikes regularly, making fights faster and more efficient.

B Tier

B tier races are solid choices for mid-game but get outclassed by higher tier races as you progress. They’re worth keeping if you’re in early-mid game and don’t have the Star Shards to keep rerolling, but you should aim to replace them eventually.

C Tier

C tier races are either the basic starter races or Common races that barely improve on the starter. You should reroll away from these as soon as possible because their bonuses are too small to make a real difference.

The best races in Abyss are Kraken and Sea Angel (both Mythical), followed by Shark and Vampire Squid (both Legendary). Kraken is the overall best with permanent scaling damage and a revive ability, while Sea Angel excels at everything with massive oxygen, speed-based damage, and infinite sprinting when low on oxygen.
