Summary:

  • Alan Ritchson is a fan-favorite who has always headlined the talks of DCU’s Batman fancast.
  • However, Ritchson seemed to have put the rumors to rest, revealing he had a conversation with James Gunn.
  • So, here’s what you need to know about Alan Ritchson playing Batman in the DCU.

Alan Ritchson as Batman in the DCU

DCU’s Superman has been a massive success, reviving what many considered a dead comic book universe. With Superman finally established, the attention has naturally shifted to DCU’s Batman. James Gunn has revealed that DCU’s Batman movie is being directed by Andy Muschietti, with the film being titled The Brave and the Bold. It’s been two years since the movie was announced, with no casting news or a writer being attached to the film.

However, despite all this, fans continue to fan-cast their own Bruce Wayne. Reacher star Alan Ritchson as Batman is one fan cast that DCU fans are hell-bent on seeing. However, it seems like Ritchson has already had talks with James Gunn, and despite the buzz, he may not be the one donning the cape and cowl after all.

Will Alan Ritchson be the Next Batman

Alan Ritchson has confirmed that he doesn’t think “Batman is in his future.” In a conversation with Variety, Ritchson addresses the Batman rumors he saying:

“Well, it’s not rumor that James Gunn is a fan. He said it himself. And am I a fan of James Gunn? Absolutely. I don’t want to mislead people. Words have been exchanged about Batman. But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.”

It seems like the DCU CEO and the Reacher star have already had a conversation. While many fans will be disheartened by Ritchson not joining the DCU, it seems like there is still some hope. Ritchson has stated that he sees a future in DC, just not as Batman. This could very well mean that he may play a different character in the DC universe.

Who Can Alan Ritchson Play in the DCU

Alan Ritchson is no stranger to comic book roles. He has previously played the role of Arthur Curry (Aquaman) in Smallville and Hawk in the CW’s Titans TV series. That said, owing to Ritchson’s hulking physique, he would be perfect to play characters with a big physique.

So, here’s a list of characters that we think Ritchson would be perfect to play:

  • Bane
  • Solomon Grundy
  • Ted Grant (Wildcat)
  • Killer Croc
  • Shazam
  • Jim Harper/Guardian
  • Hourman
  • Orion
  • Captain Atom

Has Batman Already Appeared in the DCU

Yes, technically, Batman made his first appearance in the DCU. The Caped Crusader appeared in a cameo in Creature Commandos. It was quite literally a second of screentime with no dialogue. However, it is quite ironic how the physique of this Batman looks awfully similar to Alan Ritchson’s.
