A flagship Android phone may receive seven years of OS updates while on the other hand, a low range or midrange phone may receive only two years of Android OS update. Google OS Update Policy: 7 Years

Google undoubtedly leads the game when it comes to Android OS update support on its Pixel devices. Samsung OS Update Policy: 7 Years for Flagship, 4 Years for Mid-Rangers

Samsung quickly followed in Google's footsteps by adopting a 7-year update policy for all its flagships. This means all devices in the S and Z series, starting with the S24, are eligible for seven years of Android OS updates. However, the company only provides four years of OS updates and five years of patches to its mid-range phones. Here are all the Samsung phones set to receive seven years of Android OS updates:

Nothing OS Update Policy: Up to 5 Years

Nothing has quickly built a fan following with it's clean software and reliable Android OS update policy. While the brand started with the standard 3-year Android OS schedule, it has now begun extending support on its flagship devices. The Nothing Phone (3) offers up to 5 years of Android OS updates. However, the newer Nothing Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro continue to follow the old 3-year update frequency, similar to mid-range models.

Motorola OS Update Policy: 3-5 Years

Motorola has a bad reputation when it comes to it's Android OS update policy. Most phones receive 2–3 Android OS updates, even on premium models. Moreover, updates were often delayed but things are finally changing. With the introduction of the new Motorola “Signature” series in early 2026, the company is gearing up to join the big league. This lineup is the first from Motorola to offer a guaranteed 7 years of both Android OS update and security patches, putting it on par with Google and Samsung.

Apart from this, Motorola has also started improving support on select devices. The Edge 50 Neo marked a big shift with 5 years of OS updates, while most Edge and Razr models still stick to the usual 3 OS updates.

Honor OS Update Policy: Up to 7 Years

Honor has significantly improved its software update policy in recent years. While older devices typically received 2–4 years of Android OS updates, the company is now stepping up it's game. Starting with the Honor Magic 7 Pro, Honor has adopted the industry standard 7-year Android OS update schedule for its flagship Magic series. This includes newer models like the Magic 8 Pro, putting Honor on par with Google and Samsung in terms of long-term software support.

Oppo, just like its sister company, OnePlus, offers four years of OS updates for most phones and even five years on select models. Realme OS Update Policy: Up to 4 Years

Realme has historically lagged behind its competitors when it comes to software updates. Most of its older devices only received 2–3 Android OS updates, even in the upper mid-range segment. However, the newer flagship models like the Realme GT 7 and GT 8 series, Realme now offers up to 4 Android OS updates.
