We’re just a week away from the 2019 Apple event which would unveil the next iteration of iPhone. We at TechWiser are just as excited as you guys and that’s why I have prepared a final list of features which we can expect on the upcoming iPhone. I’ll divide the section into two parts; What’s new and What’s same, it should give you a clear idea of how innovative or underwhelming the next iPhone might be. Let’s begin.
What’s New?
1. iOS 13
This is the most obvious answer to what we’re going to see on the new iPhones. iOS 13 will be officially rolled out along with the rumored iPhones and would have some slick features. I particularly liked the system-wide dark mode, refined volume bar, Long Press, etc, while testing the features on iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone SE. 2. Three different iPhones
Just like previous generations iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone Xr, a lot of people in the industry are speculating a similar trend this year. It is not confirmed whether the next iPhones will be numbered( iPhone 11), continue using Roman (iPhone XI), or drop it all together( iPhone). Based on countless leaks and rumors one thing is confirmed, there will be three different iPhones this September 10th.
3. Upgraded Camera
I’m sure you must have seen the renders and alleged ‘leaks’ of the upcoming iPhone 11 (or XI whichever works). Apple clearly has taken a bold leap going against their consistency design narrative. Moving up from a two sensor arrangement, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max will have a three-sensor module and the cheaper iPhone 11 will have a two sensor module. The Camera Sensors are rumored to be as follows; one 12MP Primary Camera, one 12MP Telephoto, and one 12MP Wide-angle Lens. The cheaper version would probably lack the Wide-angle lens but that remains to be seen.

4. No More 3D Touch
This next speculation arose from the iOS 13 beta was released for developers and the public. During testing the iOS 13 public beta, I could use the 3D touch functions even on the outdated iPhone SE. With incoming speculations and rumors, this is most certainly a design choice because removing 3D touch would let Apple make room for other components such as a bigger battery.
5. Reverse Wireless Charging
Samsung has had this technology for a while now and it’s time that Apple catches up to it. This year Apple might introduce this feature with the upcoming iPhones which would allow you to charge peripherals like the Apple Watch or AirPods with just the iPhone. Ben Geskin on Twitter tweeted a picture of the dummy iPhones with the Apple logo in the center of the device instead of in the top 3rd of the device.

6. New Logo
As mentioned above, the new Apple logo position would help users in finding out the perfect spot to put your AirPods on for charging. However, there are speculations that we can expect a completely redesigned logo for the back of iPhone 11. Instead of mirror-finished Apple logo, we can expect a colorful logo much like the Apple tweet hints at.

7. Pencil Support
Apple Pencil is a well-designed product that exceeds expectations and now we may see one for the next iPhone 11. According to a report by Business Insider, iPhone 11 will support the Apple Pencil. However, there are no major leaks or pictures of the alleged Apple Pencil for iPhone but we do know that it will be a little smaller in size when compared with the current Apple Pencil which only works with iPad.
8. New Power Adaptor in the Box
Even though the last generation of iPhones supported fast charging, Apple never actually supplied a fast charging adaptor in the box. This disappointed a lot of fans in the past but it may change with the upcoming iPhone 11. It has been speculated by a number of sources that the iPhone 11 would ship with an 18-watt Type-C adaptor in the box. The iPhone, however, will retain a lightning port this time.
9. Refreshed Internals
According to Ben Geskin on Twitter, iPhone 11 is supposed to get a refreshed A12X chip which may be labeled as A13. Based on the Geekbench scores there isn’t much improvement in the overall performance of the processor. However, we do get a glimpse of the upgraded RAM (4GB) in the upcoming version. I would still reserve my judgment for when the phone actually releases.

We can also expect base storage of 128GB instead of 64GB which was the case for the last generation. Lastly, a bigger battery on the iPhone 11 would be a sweet deal considering you can now charge your AirPods with your iPhone.
What’s the Same?
10. Design
Based on the renders and dummy models we’ve seen on the internet for the past few months, it is safe to assume that there are no major changes(except for the camera module) to the physical design of the iPhone. It still has a stainless steel frame, a glass back, speaker grill on the bottom, no headphone jack, and a notch.
11. Display
It was disappointing to not see any rumors or leaks about an upgraded display amidst every other feature. We’re going to see two OLED display panels and an LCD panel for the cheaper version. The sizes are also expected to be same at around 6.5″ for the Pro Max model, 6.1″ for the Pro model, and 5.8″ for the cheapest model.
12. Lightning Port
Apple has shifted its Macbook lineup to Type-C and even the iPad Pro lineup has taken the leap towards the popular standard, Apple iPhone 11 is going to be proprietary, at least for this year. You do get an 18-watt power adaptor in the box, silver lining.
13. Face ID
FaceID is amazing on the iPhones and It would be like comparing Apples to oranges if we compared FaceID with an in-screen fingerprint sensor. However, many other manufacturers have successfully implemented the technology making it more secure, convenient, and made it look cool. I am not even expecting them to fiddle with the concept of an in-screen fingerprint sensor but maybe next year? What do you think, tell us in the comments below?
