- The upcoming iPhone 17 Air will be the lightest iPhone ever.
- It will weigh 145 grams and will be lighter than the S25 Edge.
- The iPhone 17 Air will use the new Silicon Carbon battery technology.
In the quest to make the slimmest phone, Samsung seems to have taken the lead with the S25 Edge, and Apple doesn’t want to be seen far too behind. The upcoming iPhone 17 Air intends to change this by becoming the slimmest iPhone. Here’s what Cupertino is planning for its thinnest iPhone to date.

iPhone 17 Air To Weigh Less Than 150 Grams
A new report by tipster MajinBu revealed the details about the iPhone 17 Air. Based on the leaks, the phone will weigh 146 grams. Previous reports have also mentioned that its weight will lie between 145 and 150 grams.
This means the iPhone 17 Air will be lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which weighs 165 grams. So what’s the secret behind this weight loss?

Apple is opting for a series 7000 aluminum frame rather than titanium, which Samsung prefers. It will also be slimmer at 5.5mm compared to 5.8mm on the S25 Edge.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of the phone’s weight:
- Series 7000 Aluminium Chassis: 25-30 grams
- OLED display: 35 grams
- 48 MP single camera: 5-7 grams
- A19 chipset and logic board: 10- 12 grams
- MagSafe module and other components: 10-12 grams
- Glass back: 15 grams
- Silicon Carbon Battery: 35 grams
Adding up all of these components results in a weight of 146 grams. To avoid a repeat of the iPhone 6 bendgate, Apple is opting for a smaller display. It will help the phone maintain a slim design while having a solid build.
iPhone 17 Air To Pack Silicon Carbon Battery
Another advantage that the 17 Air has over the S25 Edge is the battery. Apple will use the latest Silicon Carbon technology to pack even more capacity, although the exact capacity isn’t mentioned.
However, the battery capacity is said to be smaller than the iPhone 16, possibly less than 3,000mAh. Nevertheless, the presence of silicon carbon will certainly spice things up.
This will allow Apple to pack 15-20 percent higher energy density while maintaining the same form factor. To help the phone last an entire day, Apple will sell a battery case for the iPhone 17 Air, which nullifies the benefits of the thin phone.
Other expected specifications include a 6.7-inch OLED panel with Dynamic Island and a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone will have a single 48MP and 12MP sensor on the front, just like the iPhone 16e.
It will have 128GB of storage as a base, apart from the Action button and Camera Control button. For performance, you can expect the new A19 processor alongside Apple’s C1 modem.
You can expect the usual Apple shenanigans like Ceramic Shield glass, Always On display, and MagSafe support. There will also be 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence, apart from the latest Wi-Fi 7.
