Apple refreshed its flagship iPad Pro in 2024, and it’s set to get another update later this year. The new iPad Pro will get a new M5 chipset as previously rumored and a major upgrade in cameras. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has revealed details about the upcoming Apple M5 iPad Pro. Apart from a new chipset, the new iPad will also boast a secondary front-facing camera.

Last year, Apple made the iPad Pro M4 thinner and changed the position of the FaceTime camera from landscape to portrait. While many welcomed the move, those using the tablet in portrait mode found it harder to unlock.

To solve this problem, Apple is adding another camera lens on the front. This secondary lens will be present in portrait, so you can use your iPad in any orientation.

Whether you are looking to make FaceTime calls or simply unlock the device, it’s a nice quality-of-life feature. It will ensure that the device works respective of the way you are holding it.

Gurman also claims that the presence of a secondary lens won’t be noticeable at first glance. This is likely due to the dual camera setup being hidden inside the black bezels.

Compared to previous iPads, which only had one camera in portrait orientation, this new iPad will have two cameras, which is a huge change.

This isn’t the first time Apple has toyed with the idea of a dual-port/camera on an iPad. The original iPad was rumored to have two 30-pin connectors so users could charge it in both portrait and landscape. Although Steve Jobs rejected the concept before the original iPad entered production.

The company is also planning to upgrade all its products to M5 by next year. Furthermore, it also has plans to unveil a new foldable iPhone by the end of next year.
