When you are playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and you are getting caught, it will make the game much harder to play as enemies will keep hunting you. When you’re wanted, the world in the game reacts differently, but there are ways to escape this. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about how to clear the Regional Alert or wanted status in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and how to remove it.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Regional Alert

What is the Regional Alert in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

A Regional Alert in Assassin’s Creed Shadows indicates that you are wanted in a specific area, typically for assassinating targets or causing disturbances. The primary way you’ll become wanted in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is through Alarm Bells. When infiltrating castles and compounds, you’ll notice several areas contain alarm bells that enemy guards can ring if they spot you.

If you fail to prevent a guard from reaching and ringing an alarm bell, your character (either Naoe or Yasuke) will become wanted in that specific region. To prevent this, you can destroy alarm bells beforehand, stopping the Regional Alert from activating even if you’re seen.

Once you have a wanted status, several serious challenges will affect your gameplay:

  • Guards Attack on Sight: Guards will recognize you instantly and attack, so you must fight or stay hidden.
  • Stronger Enemies Appear: Powerful Guardian enemies will show up in castles, usually in groups of three, making sneaking in much harder.
  • Restricted Movement: Being wanted limits where you can go and stops you from doing quests that need social stealth or public interactions.

Fortunately, there are several ways to deal with your wanted status in Assassin’s Creed Shadows:

1. Use Your Scouts

Once you’ve upgraded your Kakurega building to Level 2, you’ll unlock the ability to send scouts to clear regional alerts:

  1. Check the bottom left corner of your map to see how many scouts you currently have available.
  2. Look at the opposite side of the screen to see how many scouts are required to clear a specific regional alert.
  3. Assign the necessary number of scouts to remove your wanted status.

This is usually the fastest method but requires resource investment in both your hideout upgrades and scout recruitment.

2. Switch Between Characters

One of the unique advantages of Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ protagonist system is that you can switch between Naoe and Yasuke when one becomes wanted:

  • If Naoe is wanted in a region, switch to Yasuke to move freely without being attacked on sight.
  • If Yasuke is wanted, switch to Naoe instead.
  • Important: If both characters are wanted in the same region, this strategy won’t work – you’ll be attacked regardless of who you play as.

This approach lets you continue your progress while waiting for other clearance methods to become available.

3. Wait for Seasonal Changes

The most passive but time-consuming solution is simply waiting for the seasons to change. In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the wanted status is automatically cleared when the game transitions from one season to another.

This method doesn’t cost any resources but requires patience as you’ll need to progress through the game’s storyline or complete activities that advance the seasonal cycle. You can, however, manually change the seasons when the option is available.

The best strategy is actually avoiding the wanted status altogether:

  • Always locate and destroy alarm bells before engaging enemies.
  • Prioritize taking out guards who might reach alarm bells.
  • Use stealth takedowns rather than open combat when possible.
  • Plan escape routes in case you’re spotted.

By understanding how the wanted system works and having multiple clearance strategies, you’ll maintain the upper hand in your shadowy adventures across feudal Japan.
