Applicant Tracking Systems

1. Taleo

Taleo was recently acquired by Oracle—which should give you an idea of just how much potential their cloud-enabled applicant tracking solution has. It has the #1 spot in the ATS market share. This applicant tracking system incorporates all levels of the HR cycle, from recruitment to onboarding. Taleo’s applicant tracking solutions scale to meet different business requirements—there’s a Business Edition for SMBs and an Enterprise edition for large corporates. Both of these are modular, meaning that clients can add additional functionality to better match their specific applicant tracking and monitoring requirements. For example, recruiters can ask questions like “How many years of experience do you have?” or “Are you willing to relocate?”  and based on their replies, it can rank the candidates.

Taleo doesn’t publish price figures openly—the modular nature of the solution means that different price points will be reached to meet different client requirements. However, existing clients indicate that the SMB edition costs around $130 per month, with the Enterprise edition costing significantly more.

2. Jobvite

Unlike Taleo, Jobvite has a stronger focus on the recruitment part of the HR cycle. Jobvite has a number of features built in to ensure that applicant tracking and management are as pain-free as possible. These include the Jobvite Video platform for video interviews, Jobvite Engage, a modified CRM platform that allows management to track interactions with potential hires, and Jobvite Refer, a unique feature that allows existing staff to send Jobvite invitations to their connections on various social media platforms. Jobvite also has a fairly opaque pricing structure—existing clients mention a pricing spread between $400-4000 for small-medium enterprises.

3. BambooHR

Finally, a truly affordable solution tailormade for small-medium businesses! Both Taleo and Jobvite place a strong emphasis on offering a comprehensive and scalable solution for enterprises—even their SMB solution might be a bit much for the actual needs of a small business. Enter BambooHR. This solution is specifically designed with small businesses in mind and it’s priced accordingly: The monthly subscription amount scales depending on the number of employees—the basic package is $6.19 per employee per month—for a small firm with 10-15 staff, this could mean an outlay of less than $100 per month, which is quite reasonable. BambooHR has automation built into various tools in the suite—for instance, emails are auto-populated on the fly. Making things even easier, there’s a mobile ATS app available too, on iOS and Android allowing HR managers to leverage BambooHR’s core functionality on the go.

4. Greenhouse

Greenhouse is another integrated solution that goes well beyond just applicant tracking. It offers functionality at every stage in the cycle—from recruiting to onboarding. Greenhouses’ custom CRM allows HR managers to track qualified hiring leads and monitor their effectively monitor their statuses. The Onboarding component helps take the pain out of the transition process for new employees, covering everything from documentation to training. Greenhouse also has features such as auto-tags and auto-reject which does exactly what it says. For example, For the question: “How many years of experience do you have” If the candidate answers “5+” then tag: highly experience. Similarly, If the candidate answers “0”, then auto-reject. Greenhouse also has an iffy price structure—you’ll need to talk directly to a Greenhouse account rep to get a price estimate—it’s dependent on the size of your company.

5. Vultus Recruit

Vultus Recruit is just one component of what Vultus describes as a “Staffing Solution,” that integrates recruitment with workforce management through Vultus Connect. The Recruit component is focused on ATS, however. It makes easier at every step of the way, from creating a job position to sourcing candidates to scheduling interviews. Vultus is a cloud-based solution so there’s no need for heavy local software installation. Pricing is quite reasonable, too. As with BambooHR, cost scales with employee count. 6. Atomic Hire

Automation makes every process easier and more convenient. This holds true with Atomic Hire as well. Atomic Hire’s USP is that it’s able to automatically sort and rank applicants on the basis of job performance indicators. This includes their use of General Cognitive Ability as a test of general capability and emotional stability. While Atomic Hire is short on some of the fine-grained features found in other solutions, it’s big on cost efficiency: There’s a free tier for up to 25 candidates for business owners who are bootstrapping. 7. Teamtailor

Teamtailor markets itself as the “All in one recruiting tool.” It is a bit more broad-based than other solutions on this list, including, for instance, brand marketing functionality to improve your visibility to high-value candidates. Teamtailor’s three modules are Brand Marketing, Relationship Building, and Recruitment and Analytics. As mentioned, the Brand Marketing component helps to promote your business’s brand and make it more visible to potential candidates. The Relationship Building component functions as a CRM and helps to maintain connections with the candidate, through chat etc, as well as providing the functionality to source new candidates. The Recruit component is the actual ATS here, and like BambooHR, it has a degree of automation built in for ease of use. Teamtailor also has a mobile app specifically for the ATS to help HR managers recruit on the move.

JazzHR is the most focused solution in this list. It specifically markets itself as an ATS, and not some kind of hodgepodge integrated solution. This is a simple cycle—increase your visibility, source candidates, then track the recruitment process.
