Best for – Anyone who’s looking to get over writer’s block and a new way of poem writing and sentence formation.
I planned to put a dedicated writing app, such as Pure Writer but since most of the native notes app in our phones such as Google Keep and Apple’s own Notes app are feature-packed and you have a writing option in the last app as well (keep reading). Here’s Poetry Magnets which has a different take on writing and overcoming writer’s block. You have to simply scroll through words and tap on words of your choice, which you can drag and arrange accordingly to make a poem.
The app has a premium version as well which gives you the option to add won words, features larger workspace, removes ads, etc and comes at a cost of $2.5 for a one-time payment. You can also find a similar app for iOS.

2. Daily English Poems
Best for – Anyone looking for a daily dose of a random poem each day in their notification panel.
Just like your habit of waking up early every day and exercising nourishes your muscle memory, reading a poem every day will surely help. This app on the same lines notifies you every day with a random poem & author. It has a database of over 30 poets with ten thousand poems accessible offline anytime. Besides the daily notification, you can also search for a poem, poet, and add them to your favorites. If you get bored with the text layout, simply change the text size and tweak the font from the settings along with a night mode option. You can also use the app without signing up, which is great if you’re like me and just want to browse through poems.
The only issue is that it takes time to download poems when you open the app for the first time, but after that, it works like a breeze.

3. Poet Assistant
Best for – Anyone looking for a one-stop app for meaning, synonyms and rhyming words.
Poet Assistant is an open-source app that equips you with all the tools you might need while writing your poem. It’s an offline app and replaces you normal dictionary with poetry centric features such a rhyming dictionary which is great you want to maintain your rhythm. In case you want to listen to how your poem sounds, you can make use of the text-to-speech integration, where you can type the poem and listen to it along with the character count. Besides that, it’s also a usual thesaurus and an offline dictionary.

4. HaikuJAM
Best for – Beginners who want to write short poems on a daily basis.
If you’ve always believed that writing poems are an act of solitude. This app takes a try to bust that myth by making writing a more collaborative process. You can use the app to write 3 line poems which are called Jams with two other users. While you get random jams you can complete, you also have the option to set your own topic and describe it so that others can contribute. To keep you up and motivated you can also track your progress, win badges and earn karma points as you write.
You can easily create an account with your Google account, Facebook or phone number and basic profile details.

5. Poetry Magazine
Best for – Anyone looking for a monthly dose of editorial hand-picked poetry magazine.
This app is the digital form of the oldest monthly Poetry Magainze founded in 1912. You can find tons of hand-picked poems well formatted for mobile reading. Reading on this app is extremely easy as you can swipe to change pages, tap on the thumbnail to instantly navigate to a specific page and use the search bar to find specific writings. What I like most about this app is that you can save articles in a tab called Scrapbook and view it later. You must note, that only some editions are freely available for download, but others are available for $2.5.

6. Poetizer – Social Network for Poetry
Best for – Users who need to socialize using their work and find poems from other users.
This one is similar to the HaikuJAM app however it gets serious as you’re no more writing three lines poems anymore. The app has a NewsFeed, which shows your poems according to your choice and gives you better-suited poems as you use the app more and more. You also have tabs for the poem of the day, week and month, along with the following tab which shows updates from all those fellow poets you’ve followed. The most interesting part of the app is the writing section, which lets you publish poems, add hashtags for better reach and also a draft option, in case you’re still not sure or want to work on the poem more.

7. Reddit
Whether it’s writing poetry, reading poetry, talking to other poets or asking for reviews. Reddit does it all. Although it can’t be termed as a dedicated app, you can join subreddits dedicate to poetry, comment on others posts and also ask fellow poets to critique your poem. The best part about the subreddits is that mostly you’ll find very knowledgeable people who can help you better your poetry. Moreover, there are community guidelines, so it’ll always keep spam posts in check. Here are some of the subreddits you can follow.

In this long list of Poetry Apps, I suggest you try out Poetizer. It’s a social community and gives you a glimpse of other works which can boost your own creative process. Besides that, Poetry Magazine and Daily English Poems are very minimal apps, which you can use to read poems, even if you’re not a writer. Some of my poet friends use the Poetry Assistant a lot, to stumble upon new words and discover better replacements words in their poems. There are many more apps on the app store that you can try, however, these were the best poetry apps in my opinion and would suffice if you’re keen on learning.
