With Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced releasing soon, we decided to dive into the biggest changes the remake offers. The game looks promising both visually and technically. The most welcome change? No more desynchronization during the tailing missions. In this article, we will go over the biggest changes in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

1. New Anvil Engine

One of the biggest changes is the new and improved game engine. The game is completely built on the latest Ubisoft Anvil engine. All of the modern Assassin's Creed games since Valhalla have been using this engine for better graphics and enhanced performance. This engine allows visual overhauls including volumetric lighting, Ray Tracing, and modernized water physics. Unlike remasters which only focus on better visuals, Resynced brings in interactive environment, improved facial expressions, and smooth gameplay performance.

2. Combat Is Faster

If you like the fluidity of combat in the modern Assassin's Creed installments, you're in for a treat. The combat system is fully reworked with new weapons and combos. Sword duels are more fluid and faster in Resynced. You can use rope darts in tandem with swords to create combos. Parrying enemies will open up chances for an instant kill. Chained takedowns are now possible with up to four enemies. You can use breakable objects in the environment as weapons too!

3. Tailing Missions Are Reworked

Remember those annoying tailing missions in the original Black Flag? One mistake could lead to instant desynchronization. In Resynced, the eavesdropping and tailing missions are completely revamped. You now have different ways of completing these missions! If enemies spot you during these missions, the targets will panic and attack you or run away. This opens up opportunities to approach completing the missions in a different way. You can either kill the enemy and loot them or steal from them to complete the missions. There's always a chance to just complete the mission as intended.

4. Improved Parkour and Movement

Major movement changes have been implemented in Resynced that will let you move more efficiently. The parkour takes on from recent games in the franchise, while keeping the movesets from the original. Ejecting from ledges to any desired location is now possible which was one of the key criticisms in the original. This applies across the entire game, whether you’re navigating towns or moving around ships. Crouching is also a new addition to the game. You can now crouch and take environmental advantage during certain missions and quests.

5. New Characters and Storylines

Resynced will introduce new characters and expanded storylines for beloved ones like Blackbeard. You can recruit three new officers onto the ship. Each officer comes with their unique abilities. Deadman, one of the new characters, is shown to have a double shot for the broadside weapons. However, you will have to recruit each one of them by completing their narrative storyline. The game overview trailer teases a new scene with Edward Kenway's wife Caroline. Additional missions will be coming to the game, including some new missions with Blackbeard and Steed Bonnet.

6. Pets!

Edward can now have pets onboard the Jackdaw. You can get a pet cat or a pet monkey onboard the Jackdaw. They will appear on the helm alongside Edward during your time on Jackdaw. Whether you can interact with them outside of the ship is still unknown.

7. Jackdaw Upgrades

Edward's ship Jackdaw will be getting new customization options and new skins as well. Apart from visual customizations, you can also upgrade the Jackdaw's weapons to gain an edge over your enemies in naval combat. New secondary weapons have been introduced to expand combat options. These include:

  • Shrapnel barrels: Barrels that explode and deal heavy damage to enemy sails
  • 8-pounders: Similar to swivel guns, this new weapon creates additional weak points in enemy ship hulls.

8. Naval Mission Reworks and New Sea Shanties

The naval missions are also getting reworked in Resynced. Apart from these, the Kenway's Fleet system is reworked to now make more passive income. You can also trade with different pirates across the Caribbean from the Captain's Cabin on Jackdaw. New Sea Shanties are also being added, bringing back one of the most loved features from the original Black Flag.

9. Dynamic Weather System

Ubisoft will be implementing new dynamic weather, thanks to Anvil engine's Atmos system. This will make sailing the seas a bit challenging and unpredictable. The new system also allows objects to react with the weather. Signs and sails will react to wind much more with this new system. Coconuts will also move across the ground when a windstorm hits.

10. Improved Underwater Exploration and Visuals

Resynced is set to expand underwater exploration with bigger and more detailed sequences. Thanks to the new engine, underwater visuals should look much better and more realistic. On top of that, aquatic life is also expected to get an overhaul, yes, including the sharks.

These are the 10 biggest changes in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. The game releases on July 9th, 2026 (we have a handy countdown timer for the same). Make sure to check out the PC System requirements to see if your system is ready to run the game!
