Maverick Games has recently revealed their new game Clutch. The next major trailer arrives during Summer Game Fest on June 5, and it’s expected to reveal the game’s setting, cast, and plenty of new details. Here’s everything I know so far and why this is already one of my most anticipated racing games.

The next major Clutch reveal is scheduled for Summer Game Fest.

While Maverick Games hasn’t shared the exact runtime or contents of the trailer, the studio has already confirmed that this reveal will finally show where the game is set and introduce members of the cast.

Why Clutch Already Has My Attention

The biggest reason I’m excited for Clutch is the team making it.

Maverick Games was founded by Mike Brown, who previously served as the Creative Director of Forza Horizon 5. He was also the Principal Game Designer on Forza Horizon 4 and worked on every previous Horizon title.

As someone who has spent an unhealthy amount of time exploring the worlds of Forza Horizon, seeing that pedigree attached to a brand-new racing IP immediately got my attention.

The reveal trailer didn’t disappoint either. Instead of showing another generic racing game, Maverick Games presented something that feels much more ambitious.

What We Learned From The First Reveal

The Story

Clutch follows the journey of a sibling racing prodigy competing in the R1K Racing Series, one of the most prestigious championships in the world. While the R1K represents the glamorous side of motorsport, the game also introduces players to the Midnight Collective, an underground community of car enthusiasts who race for passion rather than fame.

Things take a darker turn early in the story when the protagonist finds themselves in serious trouble and turns to a fixer for help. That decision pulls them into a criminal underworld hidden beneath the glitz and glamour of professional racing, leading to high-speed getaways, dangerous encounters, and a story that seems far more ambitious than what we usually see from racing games.

Other Key Details

  • Police chases are confirmed
  • NOS is available for high-speed racing and getaways
  • The game features a large open world to explore
  • Clutch Tech Mods introduce new ways to move through the world at speed
  • Vehicle customization appears to be one of the game’s biggest features
  • Almost every part of a vehicle can be customized
  • Players can even change tiny interior details, including cup holders, dashboard clutter, and passenger-seat items
  • Decorative items such as fluffy dice can be added to personalize vehicles
  • The cars feature an incredible level of visual detail, from paint finishes to interior stitching

Personally, this is the section of the reveal that sold me on the game. The story sounds promising, but what really stood out was the attention to detail. Most racing games focus on bigger maps or larger car lists, while Clutch seems obsessed with making every vehicle feel unique. Being able to customize everything from performance parts to the random junk sitting on your dashboard might sound ridiculous, but it’s exactly the kind of detail that makes a virtual car feel like your own. Combined with the police chases, NOS, and open-world driving, it’s giving me strong Need for Speed vibes while still carrying some of the DNA that made Forza Horizon so enjoyable.

What I Expect To See In The Summer Game Fest Trailer

The biggest mystery surrounding Clutch right now is its location.

Maverick Games has already confirmed that the Summer Game Fest trailer will reveal the game’s setting, and that’s easily the thing I’m most curious about.

Right now, many fans believe the game could be set in Italy, although that remains pure speculation. The architecture and visual style shown during the reveal have certainly fueled that theory.

I’m also expecting to see:

  • More gameplay footage
  • A deeper look at the open world
  • Additional story details
  • Cast announcements
  • More information about the Midnight Collective
  • Better demonstrations of the customization system

A release window would be nice too, although Maverick Games hasn’t hinted at one yet.

My Thoughts Before The Trailer Drops

After watching the reveal, Clutch immediately jumped onto my most anticipated games list.

The graphics look fantastic, the story seems genuinely interesting, and the level of customization shown so far is honestly ridiculous in the best possible way. The fact that the game also includes NOS, police chases, and a massive open world only makes it more appealing. The best comparison I can make right now is that Clutch feels like someone combined the open-world freedom and visuals of Forza Horizon with the storytelling, atmosphere, and street-racing culture of Need for Speed.

Of course, we’ve only seen a small glimpse of what Maverick Games is building. We still don’t know the location, platforms, release date, vehicle roster, or multiplayer plans.

Hopefully, the Summer Game Fest trailer answers at least some of those questions.

Until then, I’ll be watching the countdown clock and trying not to get my expectations too high. So far, though, Clutch looks like it could be one of the most exciting racing games we’ve seen in years.
