Ever since Remedy revealed CONTROL Resonant, I’ve been curious to see how the studio would follow up one of the weirdest and most memorable games of the last decade.

What surprised me most wasn’t the return of the Federal Bureau of Control. It was the decision to put Dylan Faden in the spotlight. CONTROL left plenty of unanswered questions surrounding Jesse’s brother, and now it looks like he’s finally getting his chance to step out of the shadows.

If you’re as excited as I am to dive back into Remedy’s bizarre paranormal universe, here’s everything worth knowing before launch.

What Is CONTROL Resonant?

CONTROL Resonant picks up after the events of the original CONTROL, but this time the focus shifts from Jesse Faden to her brother, Dylan Faden.

After spending years imprisoned and experimented on by the Federal Bureau of Control, Dylan finds himself deployed during a full-scale paranatural crisis.

The Hiss is no longer confined within the walls of the Oldest House.

Reality itself is beginning to unravel.

Manhattan has become ground zero for a catastrophic outbreak involving the Hiss, the Mold, and other supernatural threats that are reshaping the city into something entirely unfamiliar.

As Dylan struggles to understand his own powers, he’ll also search for Jesse while attempting to stop a crisis that threatens the entire world.

Personally, I love this setup. The first game hinted at Dylan’s potential throughout the story, and now it feels like Remedy is finally ready to explore what kind of person he becomes after everything he endured.

A Twisted Version Of Manhattan

One of the biggest changes in CONTROL Resonant is the setting.

Instead of being confined to the ever-changing halls of the Oldest House, players will explore multiple regions across a distorted version of Manhattan.

According to Remedy, these areas feature:

  • Large explorable zones
  • Reality-bending architecture
  • Gravity anomalies
  • Environmental puzzles
  • Paranatural events
  • Dynamic combat encounters

The original CONTROL was at its best when reality completely broke down around you. Seeing those concepts expanded into an entire city sounds incredibly promising.

Dylan’s Powers Look Wild

While Jesse’s telekinetic abilities defined the original game, Dylan appears to bring his own unique approach to combat. As he grows stronger throughout the story, players will be able to customize and evolve his powers through a progression system that shapes how his abilities develop.

What excites me most is the balance between supernatural powers and physical combat.

Remedy isn’t simply giving players another telekinetic hero. Instead, Dylan’s abilities seem designed to complement a much more aggressive combat style.

The Aberrant Might Be The Coolest Weapon In The Game

The standout feature for me is easily Dylan’s weapon.

Known as the Aberrant, this shape-shifting melee weapon can transform into different forms during combat.

Known Aberrant Forms

  • Massive two-handed hammer
  • Dual-wielded blades
  • Additional forms yet to be revealed

The ability to instantly switch between weapon types during combat sounds like it could add a lot of variety to encounters.

If Remedy nails the transitions and animations, this could become one of the most satisfying combat systems the studio has ever created.

CONTROL Resonant Editions and Pricing

There are currently two editions available.

Standard Edition ($59.99)

Includes:

  • CONTROL Resonant

Digital Deluxe Edition ($69.99)

Includes:

  • CONTROL Resonant
  • AWE Mission Outfit
  • Untapped Artifact (Wallet)
  • Starter Resource Bundle
  • Digital Artbook
  • Original Soundtrack

For just $10 more, the Deluxe Edition feels like a pretty reasonable upgrade, especially if you’re the type of player who enjoys digital artbooks and soundtracks.

The Starter Resource Bundle could also provide a nice boost early in the game.

Why I’m Excited For CONTROL Resonant

The original CONTROL remains one of my favorite action games of the past decade because it wasn’t afraid to be weird.

Most games give you answers. CONTROL gave you more questions.

From what I’ve seen so far, Resonant looks like it’s doubling down on everything that made the first game special while expanding the scope far beyond the Oldest House.

A new protagonist, a corrupted Manhattan, shape-shifting weapons, gravity-defying environments, and more paranormal chaos than ever before? That’s exactly the kind of sequel I was hoping for.

Until then, I’ll be counting down the days until Dylan Faden finally steps into the spotlight.
