Ghost hunts are what make Demonology worth playing. They're intense and risky, but also one of the most exciting parts of any investigation. You can actually start the hunt by yourself in the game, and most players don't really know how. If you are one of them, here is the complete Demonology Ghost Hunt guide so you understand how to trigger one.
What Is a Ghost Hunt in Demonology?
A hunt is when the ghost stops messing around and starts actively trying to kill you. The moment one begins, the front entrance locks so no one can escape, the lights start flickering, your flashlight equipment goes haywire, and radio communication breaks down in multiplayer. The ghost then roams the entire map looking for players, and anyone it spots is in serious danger.

Ghost hunt in Demonology is also the most useful identification tool in the game. Different ghost types behave differently during a hunt: some move faster, some target specific players, and some have abilities that only show up when they're actively hunting.
How Does Ghost Hunt Start On Its Own in Demonology?
The ghost is always watching your team's average energy level. Once that number drops low enough (around 50% or below) the ghost becomes capable of hunting at any time. Some of the more aggressive ghost types can start hunting even earlier than that, which you need to keep in mind on harder difficulties.

Your energy naturally drains the longer you stay inside the investigation site. Being in dark rooms, getting hit by ghost events, and spending time near the ghost room all speed up that drain. On Nightmare difficulty, the ghost room itself can shift mid-game, which throws an extra layer of chaos into all of this.
How to Force a Ghost Hunt in Demonology
If you don't want to wait around for energy to drain naturally, cursed objects are the way to go. These spawn somewhere in the investigation site and can trigger what the game calls a Cursed Hunt. Here is the list of cursed objects in the game:
Umbra Board
The Umbra Board is my personal go-to for forcing a hunt, and I think it's the best starting point for most players. All you do is interact with it and click "Where is your room?" on the prompt. After a short countdown, the board breaks and the hunt begins immediately. I always make sure I know exactly where I'm hiding before I confirm the command, because the hunt starts fast.
Summoning Circle
The Summoning Circle is a guaranteed hunt trigger, but it comes with a real cost. You need a lighter, and you have to manually light all five candles around the circle one by one. The problem is that each candle drains roughly 10% of your team's energy, which means by the time you light that final candle, you've already lost around half your energy before the hunt even starts.
Music Box
The Music Box is the most dual-purpose option on this list. When you activate it and carry it around the site, it helps you locate the ghost room because the ghost actually hums along to the music when you're close.
But keep using it long enough, and your energy hits zero, the song reverses, and a Cursed Hunt starts right away. It's a useful tool for combining ghost room discovery with a guaranteed hunt trigger. Just be aware that the hunt comes faster than you expect. I wouldn't recommend using this one without a solid exit plan already in place. Plus, the humming creeps me out!
Fortune Teller
The Fortune Teller gives you a random fortune every time you use it, and one of those possible outcomes is "They Come For You Now", which starts a hunt shortly after you receive it.
Since the result is completely random, this isn't a method you can rely on consistently. Use it if you're already interacting with it for other reasons, but don't count on it to trigger a hunt on demand.
The Umbra Board is where I'd start, since it's the most forgiving method and works at any energy level. Once you're comfortable with that, try the Summoning Circle when you want a bigger challenge. Just always, always know where you're hiding before the hunt begins.
