Summary:

  • Edge of Tomorrow is a high-concept science fiction film that deals with a wacky rebirth plot.
  • But what if that plot was adapted into an anime with even better visuals?
  • Well, that’s exactly what the studio behind this legendary anime movie is doing.

Edge of Tomorrow Animated Movie

If you’re a fan of Mission Impossible, you would’ve watched Tom Cruise’s Edge of Tomorrow. But did you know the movie is a live-action adaptation of the manga All You Need is Kill? Despite the manga being quite popular, All You Need is Kill never got an anime of its own. However, that is changing now as we’re officially getting what is technically an Edge of Tomorrow anime movie by an anime studio that has some amazing work to show for it.

The Studio Behind Berserk Is Bringing All You Need Is Kill to Life

Studio 4°C will be animating All You Need is Kill, the same studio that animated the Berserk: Golden Age Arc movies. All You Need is Kill will release on Jan 9, 2026, and will be directed by Ken’ichirô Akimoto and Yukinori Nakamura.

Akimoto has previously worked on the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc movie and Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. Nakamura, on the other hand, has handled the visual effects on Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron.

While the film adapts the story from the manga, it will feature a different animation style, setting it apart from both the manga and the Edge of Tomorrow movie. The story follows Rita, who is forced to relive the day of her death over and over again. No matter what she tries, she can’t escape her fate. In the process, she ends up becoming a gruesome warrior and finds Keiji, who’s also trapped in the same loop.

While many fans would think that Studio 4°C is just making an animated version of Edge of Tomorrow, that is far from the truth. The studio has worked on a diverse range of anime, music videos, short films, video games, and even commercials. First off, the studio created the avant-garde movie Mind Game, which is a unique blend of 2D, 3D, CGI, and live action.

They’ve also contributed to major video games like Street Fighter IV and Asura’s Wrath, as well as animated movies like an animated Matrix anthology film, Batman: Gotham Knight, Transformers: Animated, and Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.

It is evident from the trailer that Studio 4°C is bringing their style and energy to All You Need is Kill, and no matter how the movie pans out, it will definitely be a feast for the eyes.
