- Nothing confirms that they will continue making Essential Space free for now.
- There is a chance that they will introduce a premium tier in the future.
- Nothing’s CEO states that they will charge when there is a substantial value to it.
Nothing introduced Essential Space with the launch of the Phone 3a and 3a Pro, and it’s a pretty useful feature. It acts as an AI-powered hub where you can store notes, voice recordings, screenshots, and photos. What makes it interesting is that it processes the stored data using AI to generate reminders, to-do lists, and other helpful info. There were rumors that Nothing might charge for this feature in the future, but the company has now confirmed that Essential Space will remain free, at least until it reaches its full potential.

Recently, Nothing CEO Carl Pei addressed the idea of charging for Essential Space in a video on Nothing’s official YouTube channel. Previously, an APK teardown hinted at a possible free trial, and AI credits might be on the way. However, Carl clarified that the current set of features will remain free, at least for now.
There might be a premium tier in the future as right now the Essential Space is pretty bare bones.
Carl Pei also mentioned that Essential Space is only about 10% complete right now. There’s still a lot more to build, and while they are open to charging for it in the future, that’ll only happen once it delivers real value that users can benefit from.

This hints that Nothing has bigger plans for Essential Space than what we see right now. They might expand their AI integration and add other smart features. Hopefully, it will also get more functionality beyond just opening Essential Space.
Seasoned smartphone manufacturers like Apple and Samsung are also moving towards subscription-based models for Apple Intelligence and Galaxy AI. But the key difference is that they’ve already built a much more feature-rich experience compared to what Nothing offers today.
Maybe they are taking their time to reach that level first, before even thinking about charging their users.
That’s it, folks! Let’s see what Nothing has in store next. Stay tuned for more updates.
