Things are heating up in Fire Force Season 3, and Episode 9 seems to set the flames even higher. Following the heavy-hitting bombshell dropped in the previous episode, fans are eager to see what comes next. From shocking truths regarding the St. Raffles Convent to Arthur Boyle going on a hilariously misguided-but unexpectedly vital-adventure, Episode 8 left viewers with a lot to digest. Everyone’s anticipating what comes next, and Episode 9 is set to raise the stakes even higher.

Fire Force Episode 8 Recap: Holy Mother of Darkness / The Knight King’s Great Adventure

Episode 8 was the darkest and most revealing episode of the anime so far. The episode opens with Hibana confronting Sister Sumire, determined to uncover the truth behind the atrocities committed at the St. Raffles Convent.

That’s when Sumire confessed to performing Spontaneous Human Combustion experiments, feeding children vegetables infected with Adolla bugs. The reason? To produce Doppelgangers and eventually bring about a second Great Cataclysm.

In a dark twist, it was revealed that when a person in the real world encounters their Adolla Doppelganger, they fuse and ignite into flame. With cold detachment, Sumire also revealed that the sisters Hibana didn’t die; they were transformed into Infernals. The moment when one of them screamed Hibana’s name was especially haunting.

Sumire even tried to kill Hibana, Karim, and Huo Yan Li. But on their way back, an unexpected Adolla Link between Sumire and Amaterasu allowed them to escape. The episode confirmed that Sumire is indeed the seventh Pillar, and the looming danger is now more imminent than ever before.

At the same time, in Asakusa, Benimaru Shinmon decides there’s no time to lose, so he goes to wage war with Company 8. The second half of the episode eased its emotional burden with Arthur Boyle, who was still pouting over his loss to Dragon and was in a funk, until Vulcan showed up with a plan.

Playing into Arthur’s delusions of chivalry, Vulcan told him that he could forge an actual “Orichalcum” sword. What followed was a wild, riddle-filled quest with misleading clues and absurd directions. Of course, Arthur misread everything and set off into the Nether, where he thinks his destiny awaits.

What to Expect in Fire Force Season 3 Episode 9

Based on the manga, Episode 9 will continue from Chapter 203, Arthur’s strange but meaningful adventure in the Nether. Although his story provides much comic relief, it also plays a crucial role in his character development. This episode may finally talk about his past and what exactly is the cause of his eccentric behavior.

Fans can also expect new characters closely related to Arthur’s story. Their introduction may foreshadow the future great battles and emotional plots. Arthur will definitely train even harder, which will lead to a much-anticipated rematch with Dragon.

On the other side of the darkness, we’re likely to witness how Hibana and the rest of the Fire Force respond to Sumire’s devastating revelations. With very strong indications that Iris may be the last Pillar, the Evangelist’s move to bring another Cataclysm may be closer than anyone anticipated.

There’s also a strong possibility that Shinra Kusakabe will find himself back in the limelight. Speculation has it that he might get another Adolla Link, perhaps with a familiar figure. Throughout the season, it seems like we’re going to find out more secrets about Adolla and the Evangelist’s true plan to surface.
