- The Apple MacBook Pro will come with an OLED panel.
- It will also be the first MacBook with a touch screen.
- The OLED MacBook Pro models are expected to enter production by late 2026.
You might have seen how brands like Lenovo, Samsung, and others are already pushing touch screen OLED panels in their laptops. Meanwhile, Apple, as usual, has been holding on to its mini-LED screens, which have good colors, but still not at the level of OLED. Well, it looks like Apple has finally decided to make the shift. And not just to OLED, but also adding a touch screen to the MacBook Pro.

We previously discussed that the MacBook Pro would be the first to come with an M5 chip, and now there’s one more new update. As reported by Ming-Chi Kuo, the upcoming MacBook Pro will first time feature a touch screen with an OLED panel. This shift is based on Apple’s long-term observation report of iPad user behavior, which shows that touch controls can enhance both productivity and the overall user experience.
He also mentioned that the more affordable MacBook model’s mass production will start in the 4th quarter of 2025, and will not support a touch panel. Let’s find out more about the upcoming MacBook Pro.
Why OLED on MacBook Pro?
If you look at the current MacBook Pro lineup, Apple is still using mini-LED panels. They’re bright and color-accurate, but OLED takes it one step further. OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays don’t need a backlight, which means that each pixel lights up on its own. That means you get true blacks, higher contrast, and punchier colors that make everything look more vibrant.

For creative professionals, OLED is the best option. Editing photos or videos becomes more precise with deeper blacks and finer details. On top of that, OLED panels are thinner, which could allow Apple to make the MacBook Pro sleeker while still keeping the same battery performance.
MacBook Pro with Touch Screen
Alongside OLED, Apple is also bringing a touch panel to the MacBook Pro. The best part is that instead of adding an extra touch layer on top of the display, Apple will be using on-cell touch technology. It means that the touch sensors are directly built into the display itself. So this will make the screen thinner, more responsive, and even more power-efficient.
In real-life scenarios, it will really impact productivity. For years, MacBooks have relied only on the keyboard and trackpad, while Windows laptops have been offering touch input as an added layer of convenience. With on-cell touch, you can get that familiar MacBook experience with the same feel you get on your iPad.
The touch screen on MacBook Pro will enhance scrolling through documents, annotating designs, or quickly navigating apps. Overall, it can be considered a huge upgrade from the current generation MacBook Pro. It is expected to enter production by late 2026, so we can say that Apple will bring a new “touch” to MacBook next year.
So that’s it, peeps! Stay tuned for more updates like this in the future.
