The new Crystal Depths area in Fish It comes with a special pickaxe tool that lets you mine glowing crystals for mutations. Getting this pickaxe requires you to complete a fishing quest that involves finding a rare diary item. After you complete a series of quests, you can get a new pickaxe. Here is how to get the pickaxe in Fish It and use it for the Crystallized mutation!
How to Get a Pickaxe in Fish It
There are actually some long steps that you have to do to get the pickaxe in the latest Crystal Depths update in Fish It. Here are the steps:
1. How to Find the Crystal Depths
Before you can start the pickaxe quest, you need to reach the new underwater area at Pirate Cove POI. You will need 1 million gold to buy the Advanced Diving Gear. This red-colored equipment lets you dive to 200 meters below the surface.
When you arrive at the dock of Pirate Cove, walk toward the circular pathway in the middle. Keep going past the regular fishing spot until you reach the back area, where you can buy the Advanced Diving Gear. After buying and equipping the gear, interact with the special diving spot. You will descend 100 meters, then another 100 meters more, until you reach Crystal Depths.
2. How to Find the Mysterious Diary
Once you’re in Crystal Depths, look for Hank NPC on the right side of the area. Talk to him, and he’ll tell you about a mysterious diary that you need to fish up from the waters nearby.
Drop your fishing line in the pond area right next to the Hank. The diary is a special catch that can take anywhere from 1 to 5 hours to appear, depending on your luck. Use any luck-boosting items you have to speed up the process.
3. Turning in the Diary for the Pickaxe
Here is the most important part that many players miss: you must hold the diary in your hand when talking to Hank. If the diary is just in your inventory but not equipped, he won’t give you the pickaxe. Here’s exactly what to do:
- Catch the diary using your fishing rods and then open your inventory to equip the diary.
- Go back to Hank, talk to him while still holding the diary in your hand.
- Submit the diary and receive your pickaxe.
If the NPC doesn’t give you the pickaxe, check that you are actually holding the diary, because this is the most common mistake players make.
Now that you have the pickaxe, walk around the Crystal Depths and look at the crystals scattered throughout the zone. Not all crystals are active at the same time. You can only mine the glowing crystals. When you find a glowing crystal, pull out your pickaxe and get close. Press E on PC or use the interact button on mobile to mine it and get the Cave Crystals. These are like fragments that work similarly to potions. When you fish with it, you might get Crystallized Mutation.
Crystal Depths Bonus Quest – Coral Lantern
While you’re in Crystal Depths, you can complete an optional quest for Dorian, another NPC in the area. He wants you to collect 30 coral reefs from around the underwater zone. Coral reefs spawn under the dock where you enter Crystal Depths, near the pond where you fished for the diary, and inside the cave area. They respawn after some time, so you might find 7-10 corals in one dive. Swim to the surface, fish for about 10 minutes, then return to find more corals.
Once you collect all 30 coral reefs, return to Dorian and turn them in. He’ll give you the Coral Lantern skin, a cosmetic item that changes how your lantern looks.
Getting the pickaxe in Crystal Depths requires patience, but it gives you a useful tool for collecting mutations. Fish for the diary, remember to hold it when turning it in, and you will receive your pickaxe.
