12 Best Fixes for Wi-Fi Keeps Disconnecting on iPhone

Picture this: You are waiting for an important email notification on your phone. When you check your phone after some time, you realize the phone isn’t connected to Wi-Fi. Typically, your iPhone should stay connected to Wi-Fi whether the phone is locked or not. Sadly, users are facing this issue where iPhone won’t stay connected to Wi-Fi. Fix iPhone Keeps Disconnecting From Wi-Fi

1. Restart Phone and Router

Start the troubleshooting process by restarting your phone and router. Try turning Airplane mode on and off as well. That will help in fixing Wi-Fi issues on iOS. After reboot, use a speed testing app for iPhone to analyze your network.

2. Be Near Modem

Your iPhone needs to be within the network range to stay connected to Wi-Fi. If you are too far away from the modem, iPhone will disconnect from the Wi-Fi. The best way to find out if the network range is causing the problem is to keep your iPhone as close to the modem as possible. If iPhone keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi near the router too, then try the following solutions.

3. Enable Auto-Join

One of the main reasons behind Wi-Fi keep getting disconnected on iPhone issue is due to the Auto-join feature being turned off. You need to enable it to fix the issue.

For that, open Settings on your iPhone and go to Wi-Fi. Tap on the (i) icon next to your Wi-Fi. Enable the toggle next to Auto-Join. If it’s already enabled, turn it off and on again. Similarly, enable Auto-Join for other Wi-Fi connections that you connect to regularly.

4. Turn off Private Address

iPhone users on Reddit suggest turning off the Private address feature under Wi-Fi settings to fix this issue. This setting seems to be causing the Wi-Fi dropping issue on Mesh networks mostly. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Tap the (i) icon on your Wi-Fi and disable the Private address toggle. Restart phone.

5. Forget Wi-Fi Network

You should also try forgetting the Wi-Fi network from your iPhone. That can also fix the Wi-Fi keeps dropping issue.

To do so, go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Tap on the (i) icon for the Wi-Fi and hit the Forget This network button on the next screen. 6. Disable VPN

Several iPhone users that were going through the Wi-Fi issue have recommended checking the VPN settings. Most VPNs come with Connect on demand button or something similar. If that is enabled, your Wi-Fi will keep on disconnecting until you manually connect it. So open the VPN app on your phone and disable the manually connect setting. Alternatively, if you don’t use the VPN app much, you can uninstall it.

You should also disable or change settings for Wi-Fi finder, ad blocker, or any recently installed apps on your phone.

7. Turn off Networking & Wireless Privacy Setting

If your Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting when locked, you should try turning off Networking and Wireless setting as shown below.

1. Open Settings and go to Privacy.

8. Turn off Wi-Fi Assist

Another setting related to Wi-Fi that could be causing the disconnection issue is Wi-Fi Assist. This setting basically switches to mobile data when the Wi-Fi connection is poor. Try turning it off.

For that, open Settings and go to Cellular or Mobile data. Scroll down to the bottom and turn off the toggle next to Wi-Fi Assist.

9. Turn Off Bluetooth

Often Bluetooth also interferes with the Wi-Fi network on your phone. Even though that shouldn’t happen in normal circumstances, try turning off Bluetooth for a while or disconnect any connected Bluetooth devices from your iPhone to see if Wi-Fi issues get fixed.

10. Update iPhone

iOS updates are often responsible for causing Wi-Fi issues. Fortunately, Apple does fix such issues through subsequent updates. Check if an update is available for your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Software update and if it is, tap on Download and Install.

11. Disable IPv6

If you are comfortable with changing your router settings, you should disable the IPv6 option and use IPv4 only. For that, open your Wi-Fi router page, go to Network settings, and disable IPv6.

12. Reset Network Settings

Lastly, if none of the above solutions help you in fixing iPhone keeps losing connection to Wi-Fi, then you should reset network settings on your iPhone. Doing so will reset Wi-Fi passwords, cellular data settings, Bluetooth, and similar settings. You will have to configure them again. However, nothing will happen to personal data on your phone.

To reset network settings, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings.
