Unable to find the cast option in Google Chrome? That can be quite frustrating, as it hinders your ability to stream videos, share presentations, or enjoy multimedia on a larger screen. There can be several reasons for it, ranging from misconfigured settings to a faulty extension. In any case, one of the solutions below should help fix the cast option not showing problem in Google Chrome.

1. Connect PC to Same Wi-Fi Network as Chromecast

If your computer is not connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Chromecast device, Google Chrome might be unable to show the Cast option or detect your devices. To fix this, you should ensure that both your PC and the Chromecast device are connected to the same network.

2. Add Cast Option to Toolbar

Is the cast option not showing up in Google Chrome’s toolbar? If so, you can try accessing the option from the kebab menu (three-dot icon) in the upper right corner.

Alternatively, you can also pin the Cast option to Chrome’s toolbar. For that, click the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner and select Cast. Once the Cast option appears on the toolbar, right-click on it and select Always show icon from the resulting menu.

3. Update Google Chrome

It’s always a good idea to keep your apps and services updated to the latest version. If the Chromecast option is not appearing due to a bug within Google Chrome, updating the browser to its latest version should help.

In Google Chrome, click the kebab menu (three vertical dots) in the top right corner. Click on Help and select About Google Chrome from the submenu.

Check For Updates in Google Chrome

Google Chrome will automatically start checking for updates and install them if available. After that, restart the browser and see if the cast option appears.

4. Disable Extensions

If you are like most Chrome users, you may be using extensions to enhance your browsing experience. However, it is not unusual for these third-party extensions to encounter glitches or exhibit unexpected behavior from time to time. This typically occurs when you have an outdated or unsupported extension installed. You can try disabling all of your extensions momentarily to see if that solves your problem.

In Google Chrome, type chrome://extensions in the URL bar and press Enter. Then, use the toggles to disable your extensions one by one.

Restart the browser after this and see if the Cast option reappears. If it does, it means that one of your extensions is causing the issue. To find it, you can re-enable your extensions one by one until the issue occurs again. Once you find the troublesome extension, consider removing it from Chrome.

5. Turn Off VPN

Are you using a VPN connection? If so, it could lead to issues like the one you are experiencing. To check for this possibility, you can temporarily disable your VPN connection and see if that helps.

6. Reset Google Chrome

If all of the above solutions prove ineffective, you can consider resetting Google Chrome as a last resort. Doing so will remove your Chrome settings, bookmarks, shortcuts, and extensions.

To reset Chrome, use these steps:

1. In Chrome, type chrome://settings/reset in the address bar and press Enter. Then, click on the Restore settings to their original defaults option.

FAQs

1. Is screen casting the same as screen mirroring?

The Cast feature allows you to stream content from a supported website or application on a compatible device. In contrast, screen mirroring duplicates the entire screen of your computer or mobile device onto a larger display.

2. How do I cast locally stored music and videos from my computer?

Press Ctrl + O and open the file you want to cast. Then, click the Cast icon on Chrome’s toolbar and select the device you want to cast to.

Restore What’s Missing

With the Cast option in Google Chrome, you can easily view websites or watch multimedia content on your smart TV. However, you can’t do that if the Cast button does not show up in Google Chrome. Hopefully, that’s no longer the case and one of the above tips has helped you fix the problem.
