The Microsoft Teams app for Android and iPhone is convenient for attending meetings. But there have been times when I’ve struggled to get the audio working. Many participants are often frustrated when the audio is muted, becomes choppy, or stops working entirely on iPhone or Android. Does this happen on your phones too? We’ve compiled a few tips to fix when Teams audio is not working on Android and iPhone.

1. Check the Volume Level on Your Phone and Headphones
This may seem obvious, but double-checking the volume level on your phone is important. Press the Volume Up button on your phone to ensure the device isn’t muted. Additionally, if you’re using headphones with built-in audio controls or mute switch, check those buttons.
2. Unmute the Mic and Check the Audio Output Device in Teams
Ensure that you haven’t muted the audio in the Microsoft Teams app. On your Teams meetings screen, tap the Unmute microphone icon to check if others can hear you. After that, tap the Unmute speaker icon and select your preferred audio device to hear other participants on the call.
3. Allow Teams to Use the Microphone
Microsoft Teams requires permission to access and use the microphone on your Android or iPhone. You’ll need to ensure you haven’t denied microphone access to the Teams app. Here’s how to check that:
Android
1. Long-press the Teams app icon and tap the info icon from the resulting menu. Then, go to Permissions.
2. Tap on Microphone and select the Allow only whlie using the app option.
iPhone
1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down to tap on Teams and enable the toggle next to Microphone in the following menu.
4. Allow Teams to Access Nearby Devices on Android
Is the Teams app failing to detect your Bluetooth headphones or not playing audio through them on your Android? If so, you’ll need to ensure that Microsoft Teams can access nearby devices on your Android. Several users on a Microsoft Community post reported fixing the Bluetooth audio issues in the Teams app with this solution. Here’s how you can do that:
1. Long-press the Teams app icon and tap the info icon from the resulting menu. Then, go to Permissions.
2. Tap on Nearby devices and select Allow from the following menu.
Return to the Teams app to check if it can detect your Bluetooth audio device.
5. Clear Teams App Cache
Another reason audio may not work in Microsoft Teams is if the existing cache data associated with the app has become outdated or corrupted. Fortunately, Microsoft Teams provides the option to clear cache within its settings menu, making it easier to get rid of any problematic app data on your Android or iPhone.
1. Open the Teams app on your Android or iPhone. Tap the profile icon in the top-left corner and select Settings.
2. Go to Data and Storage. Then, select Clear app data.
Close and reopen the Teams app to check if the issue persists.
6. Update the Teams App
Microsoft Teams can also malfunction on your phone if you use an outdated or buggy version of the app. Hence, it’s a good idea to update Microsoft Teams app.

7. Uninstall and Reinstall the App
If the audio still does not work in Microsoft Teams after applying all the above steps, the issue may be related to some of the Teams’ core app files. In that case, your best option is to uninstall and reinstall the Teams app on your Android or iPhone. That will help resolve issues that may be occurring due to problematic app files.
Don’t Settle for Subpar Audio Experience in Teams
One or more of the above tips will get the audio working in the Microsoft Teams app on your phone. However, if you experience choppy or laggy audio output while on a Teams call on your Android or iPhone, make sure your Bluetooth audio device has enough charge. Also, disable features like Voice Isolation on iPhone or Teams’ noise suppression to steer clear of audio hiccups.
