Why Hercules?

Out of all the Disney movies that could have crossed over into Fortnite, Hercules is actually a pretty natural fit. Hercules is a Greek demigod with superhuman strength, which already sounds like a Fortnite character. Megara brings a more sarcastic personality that fans have always loved, and Hades is one of the most entertaining Disney villains ever put to screen.

The movie came out in 1997 as part of the Disney Renaissance. During these years, Disney released some of its most iconic animated films. While Hercules wasn't quite as big as The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast, it built up a very loyal fanbase over the years, and this collab is going to bring a lot of those fans back into the game.

Moreover, Disney made a major financial investment in Epic Games back in 2024, and the two companies have been working closely together ever since. Previous Disney collabs in Fortnite have covered Star Wars, Marvel, and The Simpsons. Other rumors also point to Woody and Buzz from Toy Story showing up at some point, so the Disney content seems like it's going to stay busy for a while.

What This Means for Fortnite Right Now

It's no secret that Fortnite has had a rough time lately. Epic Games went through a wave of layoffs that affected more than 1,000 employees, including some senior members of the Fortnite team. The game has also reportedly been losing active players faster than the company would like.

But Disney continuing to push big collabs like this one is a sign that they still believe in the game. Bringing in characters that younger audiences and nostalgic older players both recognize is a smart move, and Hercules hits that sweet spot well. Are you going to buy the skins?
