Epic Games never fails to surprise us. Are you ready for another big change in your favorite Battle Royale game? Fortnite adds Proximity Chat this month, and it’s going to make your games way more intense. This new feature lets you hear other players talking when they’re close to you. Want to know how it actually works? Read on and find out!

What Is Fortnite Proximity Chat and When Will It Launch?
This new feature will launch on September 19th, 2025, and will be applied in a special Battle Royale match called “Delulu” or Party Crashers LTM. You’ll be playing Zero Build mode with 80 players on the map. You can join and leave squads right in the middle of a match. No more being stuck with players you don’t click with.
So how does Proximity Chat really work in Fortnite? To make it easier to understand, you can think of it like real life. The closer someone is to you, the better you can hear them. This adds a whole new layer to Fortnite strategy. You might overhear enemies planning their next move, or they might hear you coordinating with your team.

Games like Warzone and Battlefield have shown how fun this can be. You get those insane moments where you’re trash-talking enemies right before a fight, or maybe even making temporary truces with other squads. However, to be able to join this game mode, you must set your voice chat to “Everyone”. This means you’ll hear everyone nearby, not just your squad.
The Good and Bad Sides
Proximity Chat makes matches more strategic, way more entertaining, and more realistic in a way. You’ll have stories to tell your friends after every game. But there’s a downside, too. Some players might use this feature to be toxic or inappropriate.

Epic Games knows this is a problem. That’s why they’ve added AI moderation, language filters, and better reporting tools. Still, if you’re a parent or younger player, be ready for some unfiltered conversations.
Mark your calendar for September 19 and prepare for a completely different Fortnite experience. This mode is reported to still be a temporary project, so depending on its popularity, it might either stay or be discontinued. Just remember to keep your voice chat settings ready and maybe practice your best intimidation voice, you’re going to need it!
