Fast travel in Forza Horizon 6 (read review) works differently from what returning players might expect. If you played Forza Horizon 5, you probably remember the hassle of buying a house and then hunting down every fast travel board on the map just to make the feature free. That whole system is gone in FH6, and honestly, it is a welcome change. Let us take a look at how to fast travel in Forza Horizon 6.
How Fast Travel Works in FH6 (Forza Horizon 6)
Fast travel is now free from the moment you start the game. There are no boards to smash (except XP Boards), no house to buy (except player houses), and no credits to spend every time you want to move across the map. You just open the map, move your cursor to where you want to go, and press X on your controller. Here are all the Xbox controller and PC keyboard guides to get you started.
That said, there is one important catch. You cannot fast-travel anywhere on the map right away. The game requires you to have actually driven down a road in your starter car before you can use it as a fast travel destination. Until you do, those roads show up as grey on the map and are locked off from fast travel entirely.
How to Know Where You Can Fast Travel in FH6
Reading the map is straightforward once you know what to look for. Any road shown in a white or red icon is one you have already driven, which means fast travel is available there. Roads shown in grey are ones you have not explored yet, and you will need to drive them at least once before they open up. Here is a list of all icons and symbols in the game.
This means you still have to explore the map the traditional way first. Fast travel does not replace the need to go out and discover new areas. It just makes returning to places you have already been much less of a chore.

Is This Better Than Forza Horizon 5?
Definitely. The old system in Forza Horizon 5 felt like an unnecessary hurdle, especially for players who just wanted to get around the map without a side quest attached to it. Removing the boards and making fast travel free by default keeps things simple without taking anything meaningful away from the experience. For more guides, check out our Forza Horizon 6 wiki.
