Driving around Japan on your own is fine, but Forza Horizon 6 is genuinely more fun with friends. Whether you want to explore the map together, hunt down treasure cars, find Easter Eggs, or jump into races as a group, the game handles all of this through a system called Convoys. Getting one set up takes less than a minute. So here is a complete Forza Horizon 6 multiplayer guide to play with friends.

Before You Start

There are a couple of things worth checking before you try to get a session going with friends, because missing either of these will stop multiplayer from working entirely.

  • First, you need an active Xbox Game Pass subscription to access online multiplayer in Forza Horizon 6. This applies to both Xbox and PC players. If your subscription has lapsed, you will not be able to join or create a convoy until it is renewed.
  • Second, make sure crossplay is turned on in your settings if you and your friends are on different platforms.

Xbox and PC players can play together without any issues, but crossplay needs to be enabled on both ends for the connection to work. You can find this option in the game's online settings menu.

Create a Convoy and Invite Friends in Forza Horizon 6

There are two ways to get into the convoy menu (controls), and both lead to the same place. The quickest route is through the pause menu, where you press Y on Xbox, Triangle on PlayStation, or Y on keyboard to open the convoy screen directly. Alternatively, you can go to the Online tab from the main menu, then switch over to the Social section to find your friends list and send invites from there. Some people find this second route a bit easier to navigate, especially if they want to see who is currently online before setting anything up.

Once you are in the convoy menu, here is how the process works:

  1. Open the pause menu and press Y (Xbox) / Triangle (PlayStation) / Y (keyboard) to reach the convoy screen.
  2. Select Manage Convoy to see your current convoy options.
  3. Choose Invite Friends and search for the person you want to bring in.
  4. Wait for them to accept the invite, and they will appear in your convoy list.
  5. From the convoy menu, you can also set what kind of session you want, whether that is casual cruising, car meet, racing, or PvP.

Once your friend accepts and joins, you will both be able to see each other on the map and drive together in the open world. You can also invite convoy members into specific races once a session starts.

How to Add Friends in Forza Horizon 6

If someone is not showing up in your friends list inside the game, you may need to add them through Xbox first. That's because Forza Horizon 6 pulls from your Xbox social connections regardless of whether you are on console or PC.

  • On Xbox,
    • Press the Xbox button
    • Choose the People tab and select Find Someone
    • Fill in their Gamertag
    • Once their profile comes up, hit Add Friend
  • On PC,
    • Press Win + G
    • Go to Xbox Social
    • Click Find More Friends and fill in their Gamertag
    • Select Add Friend
