Speed Skills are one of those things in Forza Horizon 6 that sound straightforward until you actually need a specific one for a Festival Playlist challenge and realise the game does not tell you exactly what speed you need to hit. This FH6 guide breaks down every level of Speed Skill in Forza Horizon 6 and the best way to earn them.

How Speed Skills Work in Forza Horizon 6

Speed Skills are earned by maintaining a high speed for a short distance, roughly a few seconds of continuous fast driving. The faster you go, the quicker you cover that distance, which means higher tier cars can rack up Speed Skills much faster than slower ones. They also contribute to your skill combo during free roam, making them useful for building up Skill Points while exploring Japan in Forza Horizon 6. There are four levels of Speed Skill, each requiring a higher speed threshold:

SkillSpeed RequiredPoints Earned
Speed100 mph / 161 kmph100
Great Speed150 mph / 241 kmph150
Awesome Speed175 mph / 282 kmph250
Ultimate Speed200 mph / 322 kmph1,000

Note that some sources list the base Speed Skill threshold as 125 mph rather than 100 mph, so if you are not triggering it at 100 mph try pushing closer to 125 mph to be safe.

Best Way to Earn Speed Skills in Forza Horizon 6

The simplest setup is finding a long straight road in free roam, making sure there is no traffic ahead of you, and just holding full throttle until the skill triggers. Japan's highway network is genuinely well suited for this since there are plenty of uninterrupted stretches where you can build speed without having to brake for corners.

Car choice matters more than location though. If you are chasing Great Speed or above, make sure your car can actually hit those numbers before you start. There is nothing more frustrating than repeatedly attempting a challenge in an underpowered car that physically cannot reach the speed threshold no matter how good the road is. Check your car's top speed stat before committing to a run, and if it falls short, either upgrade it or swap to something faster. I recommend you check our Forza horizon 6 fastest cars list to be safe!

For Ultimate Speed specifically, you want a hypercar or a well-tuned drag build. Anything below S2 class is going to struggle to consistently hit 200 mph, and even some S2 cars need a proper tune to get there reliably. The Koenigsegg Jesko is an obvious choice given its 284 mph stock top speed, but any of the top tier hypercars will do the job on a long enough straight.

One thing worth knowing is that Speed Skills can be earned during the warm-up phase before a race starts, so if a challenge requires them in a specific car, you do not have to wait for the race itself to begin earning them. For more guides. check out our FH6 wiki.
