What does it mean to race in Japan without speeding through steep mountain roads? Thankfully, Forza Horizon 6 brings that experience with Touge Battles. In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to know about Touge Battle events in Forza Horizon 6, including what they are and where to find them.
What Are Touge Battles in Forza Horizon 6?
Touge is a Japanese word for mountain pass roads. If you have watched or played Initial D before, then you'd know what Touge Battle is all about. These battles are one-on-one races that take place on five mountain routes spread across the map.
In single-player, each route has a specific rival waiting at the start, so every race feels personal. There is also an Online Championship Mode that rotates through all five routes and lets you go head-to-head against other players (multiplayer guide) on the leaderboards. Touge Battles also count toward your overall Discover Japan progress (just like collecting stamps does), so you'll want to hit as many as you can.

One thing to keep in mind is that these events are not marked on your map from the start. You have to physically drive past the start point of each route to discover it. You can find the touge battle icons in the map with a blue circle with two cars and lines inside it.
Other Events
All Touge Battle Events in Forza Horizon 6
| Region | Touge Battle Event | Class Restriction |
|---|---|---|
| Nangan | Hakone Nanamagari | B 600 |
| Shimanoyama | Bandai Azuma | B 600 |
| Takashiro | Mt. Haruna | S1 800 |
| Sotoyama | Norikura Skyline | S2 900 |
| Minamino | Arashiyama Takao | A 700 |
1. Hakone Nanamagari - Nangan Region
To start this touge battle, you have to reach the point we show on the map above. Then, you will notice small houses on the side of the road. That's where you can start the race.

Hakone Nanamagari is one of the most well-known routes in Japanese mountain racing culture. Just like you can see on the map above, the road is full of sharp hairpin turns with very little time to relax between them.

This isn’t a race where speed matters most. Good turning and control are much more important here. If your car doesn’t have a strong grip, keeping control on this road will be tough. This race has a B 600 class restriction, so make sure your car meets the requirement before heading in.
2. Bandai Azuma - Shimanoyama Region
To start this touge battle, you have to reach the point we show on the map above. Then, you have to pass the intersection to trigger the battle.

Bandai Azuma is a fast and beautiful sprint race that rewards drivers who can handle speed and brake at the right time. The long, straight roads let you go fast, but sharp turns can appear quickly.

Don’t get distracted by the scenery (it changes as per on-going season). You need to brake late and stay focused if you want to keep up with other racers here. This race has an A 700 class restriction.
3. Mt. Haruna - Takashiro Region
Mt. Haruna is one of the most famous mountain roads in the game. Players who know drifting culture or movies like Initial D will recognize it right away.

The route has a good mix of tight corners and faster open roads, which makes it easier for beginners compared to Hakone. Still, don’t underestimate it. You’ll need good control, especially during the downhill sections.

Like Hakone Nanamagari, this race also has a B 600 class restriction.
4. Norikura Skyline - Sotoyama Region
This is the hardest route in the lineup. Norikura Skyline takes place high in the mountains and sends you downhill through a lot of fast, tough turns.

Because of the steep drop, your car gains speed quickly, and mistakes can be hard to recover from. Brake early and stick to your racing line. It’s better to try this route after getting comfortable with the easier ones first.

This one is best saved for when you have already warmed up on the other routes. The restriction here jumps up to S1 800, so you will need a faster, more capable car than the previous three routes.
5. Arashiyama Takao - Minamino Region
Arashiyama Takao may not be as steep as the other routes, but do not underestimate it. The race takes you through forest roads at high speed, and sharp turns can appear suddenly.

Since the elevation changes aren’t as big, many players try to drive too aggressively and end up making mistakes. Stay smooth and pay attention to the road ahead.

This race has an S2 900 restriction, the highest in the lineup, so bring something that can handle the speed.
Touge Battles Car Restrictions
Before you start picking cars, here is something important to know: Each route has its own car restriction. This means you cannot just bring any car you want. Your car must match or be below the PI limit for that specific race, or the game will not let you enter.
The class restriction for each race is the maximum limit, not a fixed number. So let's say a race has a B 600 restriction, it means your car needs to be B 600 or lower to enter.

You can also upgrade and tune lower-class cars to fit into the restriction. For example, the Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 starts as a D-class car, but you can upgrade it all the way up to B 600 to race in Hakone Nanamagari and Mt. Haruna.
Best Cars for Touge Battles in Forza Horizon 6
Of course, when talking about mountain pass racing, a few iconic cars immediately come to mind: The Toyota Sprinter Trueno and the Mazda RX-7. Both became legendary through the Initial D series, and they remain some of the best cars to use for Touge Battle events in Forza Horizon 6.
Since each Touge Battle has its own class restriction, you will need different cars for different routes. Here are some of the cars we recommend:
