While One UI 7 is still rolling out in phases, reports suggest that Samsung has already started testing One UI 8. The Samsung Galaxy S25 has now been spotted on Geekbench, running One UI 8 based on Android 16. This confirms that Samsung is actively working on its next major software version.

Internal test builds of One UI 8 for the Galaxy S25 Ultra were previously spotted on Samsung’s servers. Now, the regular Galaxy S25 has also been found running the new update.

According to Geekbench scores, the Samsung SM-S931B (S25, Global) achieved 3135 points in single-core and 9938 points in multi-core tests. The scores have improved slightly, which suggests Samsung has made some backend performance optimizations.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra in January 2025 with One UI 7.0 based on Android 15. At that time, One UI 7 was still in beta for the Galaxy S24 series. Now, it is just beginning to roll out to older devices like the Galaxy S23 series, though it remains in beta.

So while One UI 7 stable has yet to reach most devices, Samsung is already testing One UI 8.0. The new update, based on Android 16, is expected to bring several changes, including revamped animations, security and privacy improvements, and more. We also have a wishlist of features we hope to see in this next iteration of One UI.

Samsung has already faced criticism for delaying the One UI 7 update multiple times. It now looks like the company is about two months ahead of schedule for One UI 8, which could mean an early release. However, Samsung might still follow its usual distribution timeline, with a beta program starting in Q3 2025 and a stable rollout by the end of the year.

That being said, it is still too early to say for sure. Whatever the case, Samsung will likely leave enough time between the One UI 7 and One UI 8 updates. It is also possible that the flagship Galaxy S25 series will get it first, with other models following later.
