Remember how mad you got at that Game of Thrones ending? Well, now you can fix it yourself! Game of Thrones War for Westeros is a new strategy game coming in 2026 that lets you take control and change everything. You pick a house, build armies, and make the story end the way you actually want it to.

Pick Your Favorite House in Game of Thrones War for Westeros
The game gives you four big choices, and they’re all pretty different from each other. You can pick the banner of House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or the Night King. I am guessing that the houses will work just like in the books and movies. Game Director Ryan McMahon described the game on the stage of Summer Game Fest 2025:
“This time you’re not watching Game of Thrones, you’re playing it. War for Westeros puts you at the center of power, whether you lead a Stark, Targaryen, or Lannister, or even command the Night King and his army of the dead, you wield true power and rewrite the fate of kingdoms.”
House Stark will be all about honor and tough soldiers. The Lannisters might be the best pick for sneaky players. House Targaryen might have dragons. Pretty hard to beat that, but I bet everyone is going to target you first. And then there’s the Night King. You will get zombies, giants, and you can even turn dead enemies into your own soldiers.
Game of Thrones War for Westeros Gameplay
The fighting works like your typical strategy game setup, but with Game of Thrones stuff thrown in. You’ve got soldiers, people on horses, and even dragons. The dragons are obviously powerful, but they’re not gods. Smart players will figure out how to deal with them. Maybe hide in forests or have special units ready before attacking.

You can make friends with other players, then backstab them later. So, remember to not trust anyone completely, but don’t be afraid to team up when you need help. Sometimes you have to work together to take down the guy who’s winning.
Play Solo or Multiplayer to Claim the Iron Throne
You can play solo or multiplayer in Game of Thrones War for Westeros. Single-player campaign lets you mess around with different “what if” situations. What if Jon Snow didn’t go to the Night’s Watch? What if Robb Stark survived the Red Wedding? What if the Night King had attacked earlier? You get the chance to find out.

Multiplayer supports free-for-all battles where anything can happen. It’s every house for themselves, and things get messy fast when everyone’s trying to stab each other in the back. Or especially when dragons start flying around!
Game of Thrones War for Westeros launches on PC in 2026, giving PlaySide Studios plenty of time to polish everything. The game promises to deliver the epic scale that Game of Thrones deserves. If you’re still feeling a bit bitter about how the show ended, this might be your chance to get some closure. Finally, a Game of Thrones game that gets what fans actually want!
