Genshin Impact’s Natlan region continues to expand with each update, bringing players new areas to explore, characters to collect, and bosses to challenge. The recent Version 5.5 update introduces the Lava Dragon Statue, a new world boss hidden away in the depths of Atocpan. This fiery boss not only adds to the growing roster of challenging enemies in the game but also drops essential materials for ascending characters like Varesa.

Genshin Impact Lava Dragon Statue Boss (2)

This guide will help you locate the Lava Dragon Statue boss, understand its unique mechanics, and collect its valuable rewards with minimal frustration.

Where to Find the Lava Dragon Statue

The Lava Dragon Statue is tucked away in an underground cave in the Atocpan region of Natlan. To get there:

  1. Teleport to the waypoint southwest of the Stadium of the Sacred Flame, at the entrance to the Atocpan region.
  2. Follow the winding path ahead until you reach a deep chasm.
  3. Carefully glide down into the chasm.
  4. At the bottom, you’ll need to break through some hardened Phlogiston (rock) blocking your path.
  5. Enter the cave and follow the path until you reach the boss arena.

Remember to activate the teleport waypoint inside the cave for easier access on future visits. Unlike some world bosses that spawn in open areas, the Lava Dragon Statue resides exclusively in this underground lair, making the initial discovery a bit more challenging for players unfamiliar with Natlan’s geography.

How to Beat the Lava Dragon Statue

The Lava Dragon Statue fight has some interesting mechanics. Understanding these mechanics is key to defeating it efficiently rather than struggling through a long and potentially dangerous battle.

Understanding the Overburn Mechanic

The core of this fight revolves around the Overburn state. When you hit the Lava Dragon Statue with Pyro attacks, a meter under its HP gauge gradually fills up. This might seem counterintuitive at first since most Pyro enemies in Genshin are resistant to Pyro damage, but this boss works differently.

Once the meter is full, the boss enters its Overburn state and transforms into a lava form. During this transformation, the boss becomes more aggressive, with enhanced attack patterns and damage output. However, this transformation is an opportunity rather than a setback.

You have two strategic options at this point. Continue applying Pyro to push it into a completely vulnerable state where it takes increased damage from all sources, or cool it down using Cryo or Hydro to revert it to its normal form. Most experienced players recommend continuing with Pyro attacks until the boss becomes completely inactive, as this creates a significant window of opportunity to deal massive damage without any retaliation.

Detailed Combat Strategy

When you first enter the arena, the Lava Dragon Statue will be in its dormant state. As you approach, it activates and begins its attack patterns. Start by applying consistent Pyro damage to build up the Overburn meter. Characters like Xiangling are excellent for this purpose as they provide continuous Pyro application.

Once the boss enters its Overburn state, you’ll notice it glowing brighter with molten lava visible throughout its stone body. During this phase, the boss’s attacks become more aggressive and cover wider areas. Keep your distance when possible, and use the terrain to your advantage for dodging.

Continue applying Pyro damage during the Overburn state until the boss enters its completely vulnerable state. You’ll know this has happened when the boss stops moving entirely and appears dimmed or inactive. This is your cue to unleash your most powerful burst combinations and deal as much damage as possible.

Key Attack Patterns to Watch

The Lava Dragon Statue has several distinctive attack patterns you should learn to recognize and avoid:

  • Power Slam: The boss lifts itself high into the air before slamming down at your position. This attack has a small wind-up animation where you’ll see the statue rising higher than normal. When you notice this, immediately dash to the side to avoid the impact area, which deals significant Pyro damage and can knock your character back.
  • Spinning Frenzy: Perhaps the most dangerous attack in its arsenal, the Lava Dragon Statue spins rapidly while moving toward your position. This attack lasts for several seconds and can catch players who dodge too early.

During the Overburn state, these attacks become enhanced, with larger areas of effect and increased damage. Pay extra attention to your positioning during this phase to avoid taking unnecessary damage.

Best Teams for Fighting the Lava Dragon Statue

Recommended Team Composition

When building a team for this boss fight, versatility is key. You’ll want characters who can apply different elements and deal consistent damage. Here’s a team composition that works particularly well:

  • Main DPS: Characters like Ayaka, Raiden Shogun, or Xiao work well
  • Pyro Applicator: Xiangling or Bennett are excellent choices
  • Hydro Support: Kokomi or Barbara
  • Shielder/Support: Shenhe

This balanced approach gives you options during the fight – you can push for the Overburn state when confident or fall back on cooling strategies if your team is struggling with the enhanced attacks.

Free-to-Play Friendly Team

Not everyone has access to 5-star characters, so here’s a completely F2P-friendly team that can handle this boss effectively:

  • Xiangling
  • Kaeya
  • Barbara
  • Noelle

This team offers a good balance of Pyro application, damage potential, and survivability without requiring any limited 5-star characters.
