- OnePlus plans to remove the iconic alert slider on its smartphones.
- It wants to replace it with a customizable button similar to the Action Button on iPhones
- The upcoming OnePlus 13 mini or the Oppo Find X8 Ultra could be the first phones to launch without it

If you love fiddling with the alert slider on your OnePlus phone, here’s some bad news for you. OnePlus is reportedly ditching the beloved alert slider on its flagship phones and replacing it with a button. Yes, the iconic button will be replaced with an iPhonic button!
OnePlus wants to follow in the footsteps of Apple who replaced the Mute Switch on the iPhone with the customizable Action Button. According to renowned tipster DCS (Digital Chat Station) on Weibo, the company plans to replace the Alert Slider with a new “Magic Cube Key”.
Adieu Alert Slider! Meet The New “Magic Cube Button”

This new “Magic Cube Button” customizable button will let the user toggle the flash, take a screenshot, open the camera, quickly launch an app, and more. Basically, it’s a customizable button that functions similar to Apple’s Action Button. I wish they could use a shorter name though.

Introduced in 2016, the alert slider has been the unique selling point of OnePlus devices. It allows users to instantly switch between vibrate, ringer, and silent. Even its sister company Oppo brought the feature to its phones with the Oppo Find N3 and Find N3 Flip.
Despite Nothing CEO Carl Pei claiming that the majority of people don’t use the alert slider, it remains one of the most iconic features of OnePlus phones. For instance, OnePlus faced a lot of backlash when it removed the feature from the OnePlus 10R and OnePlus 10T back in 2022.

If the leak indeed turns out to be true, it will be interesting to see how OnePlus fans react to the company’s decision to ditch the alert slider. While OnePlus does not plan to introduce OnePlus Open 2 this year, it certainly has plans for a possible OnePlus 13 mini or OnePlus 13T arriving in the near future. It is also possible that the highly anticipated Oppo Find X8 Ultra could be the first to debut without an alert slider.
