Apple is all set to change the iPhone lineup with the upcoming iPhone 17 Air. However, the company has bigger plans in store with the iPhone 18 series. Apple iPhone 18 set to introduce under display cameras

iPhone 18 to Introduce Punch-Hole Camera and Under-Display Face ID

New leaks suggest the iPhone 18 series will ditch the ugly notch in favour of a side punch hole cutout. Currently, a pill-shaped cutout houses the Face ID tech apart from the front-facing camera..

What about Face ID then? Well, Apple is planning to use under-display technology to hide Face ID within the display. While not edge-to-edge, it will be one step closer to Cupertino’s dream of an immersive display.

iPhone 18 will also be the first modern iPhone to ditch the Dynamic Island, apart from the iPhone 16e. Another first would be the separation of Face ID and selfie camera.

To add to the credibility, analyst Ross Young claims that Apple will shift to under-display Face ID with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. A switch to a punch hole from Dynamic Island could be the biggest design change for Apple in recent years.

Introduced with the iPhone 14 series, it has become a staple of the company’s design language. In 2022, the company unveiled the iPhone 14 Pro series with Dynamic Island.

The pill-shaped cutout has been present on all modern iPhones except for the iPhone 16e. Given that Apple follows a tick-tock innovation cycle, it’s no surprise that we are witnessing another change in design after 5 years.

Apple to Follow New Staggered Release Cycle

According to a report by The Information, Apple is planning to change the release cycle of its iPhones. Starting with the iPhone 18 series, the Cupertino giant will release the Pro Models first, with the cheaper models being sold later.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could debut in September 2026 alongside the iPhone Fold. Furthermore, the iPhone 18 Slim, iPhone 18e, and iPhone 18 Pro could launch in Spring 2027.

The iPhone Fold will be the first foldable device from the company and also the most expensive iPhone.Just like the rest of the iPhone 18 lineup, it will have an under-display camera and the biggest screen on an iPhone to date.

It would be the first time the base model iPhone would arrive alongside the cheaper iPhone 18e. Although the company has been following a staggered release cycle for a while, with the SE/E iPhones being released after their base models.

The iPhone 17 series, on the other hand, will stick to a single release cycle. We can expect four new devices to arrive in September this year.
