Looking up anything on your phone’s screen with the Circle to Search is quite fun. This novel feature in the Google app won’t be limited to just visual search solely. Google plans to add Audio Search feature to supplement the visual search in its official app. Android Authority’s APK teardown of the Google app revealed the upcoming Audio Search code that will let you identify songs playing on your phone and around you.

Google’s eponymic Circle to Search feature made a debut with Samsung Galaxy S24 series phones to create a buzz among the Android users. While iPhone owners continue to wait for a proper taste of this feature, Google marches ahead to improve its audio search weakness. Most Android phone owners eagerly await a feature that can sock a solid punch to Shazam on iPhone. While the Google Search does that trick with the help of Gemini, it’s usually a hit or a miss.

The evidence of Audio Search coming to Google app on Android is certainly an exciting news for all music lovers and audio researchers alike. There’s a short video of how Circle to Search gets audio support component to help you find out the song playing on your phone or around you.

Honestly, ‘hum a song to search‘ feature has been around on Android phones to make the best of the music recognition technology. That did make us question as why wouldn’t it work with actual music instead of humming the song? But moving forward, the fragmentation of Android phones is indeed challenging to ensure audio search works just fine. There’s no dearth of Android phones with sub-par microphone capabilities and that might hinder the music recognition part.

Undoubtedly, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 lineup might become the first one along with the Google Pixel series to get the new Audio Search support with Circle to Search in the Google App. We expect it to work with a wide range of apps from Pandora to Instagram for letting you identify those catch tunes.
