- You can now search photos with specific words in Google Photos using quotation marks.
- Previously, you could only search photos by describing scenes, people, or dates.
- It’s already rolling out on Android, iOS, and even the web version of Google Photos.
Let’s be honest, we’ve all been there, trying to find that one image with some specific text in it, maybe a screenshot or a document picture. And then we end up scrolling endlessly or sometimes not finding it at all. Especially when you’re in a hurry or showing it to someone. Well, Google seems to have heard us loud and clear and has now rolled out a new update to fix this. Here’s how to find any text inside an image on Google Photos.

Google recently announced this new update through its community forum, that you can now search for specific words inside your photos. Earlier, it already had some smart search operators, like letting you find pictures by location names, people, pets, dates, file types, and even events. But now, it just got even smarter with the new “text matches” feature.
Using Google Photos’ New Text Search Feature
So with this new upgrade, all you have to do is put the text in quotation marks, and Google Photos will show you all the images that contain those exact words.

This comes in super handy when you’re trying to find an old document with something like “ID” written on it, or maybe a screenshot of a conversation, a description, an address, or anything like that.
Here’s how:
- Open the Google Photos App.
- Go to the search tab and type in the text.
- Put quotation marks (“”) around the text. (eg. “Wallet”).
- Tap search.

Note: Images that aren’t backed up won’t appear in search.
That’s it, folks! About everything on the new search upgrade in Google Photos. Stay tuned for future updates.
