Imagine asking an AI chatbot, “Can you remind me of the book recommendation you gave me two days ago?” and instantly getting an answer. Until now, this wasn’t possible because Gemini could not remember your past conversations. However, a new update now enables Gemini to Recall information from your past chats, a feature that has been available in ChatGPT for some time now.

What is Gemini’s Recall Feature?
Gemini’s recall feature allows it to remember previous conversations. This means you can ask follow-up questions without repeating the details. For example, if you asked Gemini to help you plan a vacation and later needed it to check flight options, it would already know your destination and preferences. This makes chatting with Gemini feel more natural. No need to find that thread or chat since Gemini will now remember context and offer responses accordingly.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT has had a similar memory feature for over a year, and many users loved it for making conversations smoother. The difference? ChatGPT offers this feature for free, while Google currently limits recall to paid Gemini Advanced subscribers through the Google One AI Premium Plan.
You can try it on both the Gemini web app and mobile app. Also, you have the control to turn it off or on from the gemini Settings. The feature is currently available in English, but Google plans to add more languages soon and extend it to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise customers later. While it is expected that the feature may eventually become available to free users, there is no official confirmation yet.

Better Than Just ‘Saved Info’
Last November, Google introduced a feature where Gemini could remember preferences you manually saved. For example, you could tell it you prefer JavaScript for coding help. However, recall goes beyond that. It allows Gemini to remember actual conversations, not just preset preferences. So, if you once discussed a project with Gemini, you can return days later and continue from where you left off.
Google’s new recall feature brings Gemini closer to being the helpful AI assistant users want. While it’s currently limited to premium subscribers, it sets the stage for more powerful and personalized conversations.
