When night arrives, look around the map for gardens that don't have their owner inside. You can tell a garden is empty when you see the unlock symbol floating above it instead of a player's face. That means it's open and ready to be looted.

Walk into the empty garden, get close to whatever crop or fruit you want, and press E to pick it up. That's really all there is to it. Once you have what you want, your only job is getting back to your own garden before someone stops you.

The Most Important Stealing Rule: No Teleport

Here's the thing that catches a lot of new players off guard. The moment you pick up someone else's crops, your Garden teleport button gets disabled. You cannot fast travel back to your base while you're carrying stolen goods. You have to walk back on foot.

This is why the distance between gardens matters so much. If you steal from a garden right next to yours, getting back is easy and quick. If you're deep on the other side of the map, you're exposed for a long time while carrying crops that other players might want to take from you.

How to Defend Your Garden in Grow a Garden 2

Now for the other side of the coin. While you're out stealing, your own garden is sitting wide open for anyone else to walk into. And when you're not stealing, you still need to keep what you've grown safe. Here's how to build a solid defense:

1. Stay Inside Your Garden

The simplest and most reliable defense is to just stay in your garden when night comes. While you're standing inside the fences, your garden is completely locked. Other players will see a message telling them the owner is home, and they can't touch anything.

2. Hit Thieves With Your Shovel

Every player gets a Shovel by default, and it's your main weapon against intruders. If you catch someone stealing from your garden, run up and smack them with it. One hit sends them flying and instantly puts every stolen crop back exactly where it was in your garden. It's fast, it's satisfying, and it works.

3. Use Props That Protect Your Garden

Props are passive defense items that work even when you're not actively watching. The best one right now is the Bear Trap. They come from the Bear Trap Crate in the Props Shop, and there are three versions you can pull:

Some pets in Grow a Garden 2 actually patrol your garden and deal with intruders automatically. They're rare and expensive, but they make a real difference if you manage to get them.

6. Plant Crops That Fight Back

A few plants in your garden can actively punish anyone who tries to steal from you. These are some of the most underrated defensive seeds and crops in the game.

The Venus Fly Trap is the most aggressive. It snaps violently at any player who walks into your space and deals around 75% of their health in one bite. The only risk is that if you're standing too close to the intruder when it triggers, it might snap at you by accident. Keep your distance when it's active.

The Dragon's Breath plant fires laser blasts from dragon heads at any nearby intruder. Each hit does smaller damage compared to the Venus Fly Trap, but it fires very frequently. It's great for chipping down anyone who tries to stick around.

The Cactus is another defensive crop worth mentioning. It slowly drains the health of any player who steps on it, making it a solid option to place near your entry points.

Then there's the Bamboo Plant, which is unique. It does no damage at all, but it's the only plant in the game that cannot be stolen. This makes it perfect for building walls around the edges of your garden and leaving just one or two narrow entry points.
