Honkai Star Rail’s upcoming 3.3 update brings an exciting new character to the roster – Cipher, the nimble rogue from the lost city of Dolos. HoYoverse has officially revealed this 5-star character through their latest drip marketing campaign, giving us our first look at her design and background. Let’s dive into everything we know about Cipher so far.

Who is Cipher in Honkai Star Rail?
Cipher, also known as Cifera, is a fleet-footed rogue who hails from Dolos. She presents herself with confidence in her official introduction:
“Cifera? Ah, so you’ve heard of me… But few call me by that name these days. Call me Cipher. It’s sharper and swifter, like the wind itself. A perfect name for a master thief, don’t you think?”
The character artwork shows Cipher in mid-air, displaying her agility. She appears suspended in the air surrounded by falling coins and treasure. Her cat-like features and playful expression emphasize her mischievous nature, while the dynamic composition highlights the exceptional agility that makes her a master thief from the city of Dolos.
Cipher Release Date in HSR
Based on Honkai Star Rail’s update cycle, version 3.3 is expected to launch around May 21, 2025. Following the typical pattern of character releases, Cipher will likely appear in the second half of the 3.3 banners, with another character named Hyacine taking the first half.
Though Cipher hasn’t appeared in the main story yet, she has been mentioned several times by Aglaea in previous dialogues. This suggests she may make her first story appearance in version 3.2 before becoming playable in 3.3, similar to how Anaxa was introduced in version 3.1.
Cipher Leaks in HSR
Recent leaks have revealed details about Cipher’s kit, confirming she’s a Quantum damage dealer who follows the Nihility path. As expected of a Nihility character, her abilities focus heavily on applying debuffs and unique effects.
According to the leaks, Cipher’s kit revolves around two special effects: Foretold and Wealth Bond. Her Basic Attack deals Quantum damage to a single enemy, while her Talent automatically applies the Foretold effect to a random enemy (prioritizing those with the highest HP) at the start of an ally’s turn if no enemies currently have the effect.
Her Skill inflicts the Foretold effect, dealing Quantum damage to the selected target and adjacent enemies. When allies deal damage to enemies affected by Foretold, Cipher enters the Wealth Bond state. Her Ultimate is particularly interesting, as it deals Quantum damage to a single enemy before dealing True damage based on the value of the Wealth Bond effect, distributed among the target and nearby enemies.
As the release date approaches, HoYoverse will likely reveal more official details about Cipher’s abilities, story role, and gameplay mechanics. Players interested in adding this fleet-footed thief to their teams should start saving their pulls as her banner approaches in the coming months.
