Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 added a fun new twist to how matches start. Now one lucky player gets randomly chosen to drive the Battle Bus instead of just riding along. Here's how the new Battle Bus driving system works in Fortnite and what you can do to drive the Battle Bus.

How to Become the Battle Bus Driver in Fortnite?

You can't choose to drive the Battle Bus yourself. The game picks one random player out of everyone in the lobby after the spawn island countdown ends. Since lobbies have around 100 players, your chances of getting selected are roughly 1 in 100 each match. There's no way to increase your odds or sign up for the role. It's completely random every single game. Just keep playing matches and eventually you'll get your turn to drive. If you don't want to drive when selected, you can jump out of the bus normally, just like any other match.

What You Can Do as the Driver?

Driving the Battle Bus is pretty simple. You only have two controls available:

  • Steer left and right - You can move the bus route slightly by steering in either direction. This lets you influence where players can drop on the island.
  • Honk the horn - Press the horn button to make noise.

That's it. You can't crash the bus into the ground or fly off into the sunset. The bus follows its normal flight path, you just get to adjust the route a bit. Your main job as driver is steering through floating rings along the route. These rings appear in the air during the bus flight. When you successfully steer through a ring, everyone in the match gets XP and a Supply Drop spawns at that ring's location on the ground.

Can you Control Where players drop?

Sort of. Since you can only steer left and right, you're limited in how much you can change the route. The bus still follows its general path across the island. You might be able to shift the flight path enough to make certain drop spots easier or harder to reach. In competitive matches where drop locations matter, this could have some strategic value. But in casual games, it probably won't make much difference.
