If you’re a TikTok refugee – one of the many making the switch to RedNote (Xiaohongshu) – you might find yourself a bit lost in the sea of Chinese characters. But don’t worry! You can actually use RedNote in English or any other language you prefer, whether you’re on Android or iPhone. In this easy-to-follow guide, I’ll walk you through the simple steps to change the language in the RedNote app.
How to Change Language on RedNote App (iPhone)
When you first download the RedNote app and log in using your phone number or Apple ID, the app should automatically recognize your region and switch to English. However, if it does not, you can change it from settings as shown below.
1. Open the RedNote app on your iPhone.
2. Tap the hamburger menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner.
3. Tap the Settings icon. On the next screen, tap Settings again.

4. Select Language (the first option) and choose English.
5. RedNote will refresh and automatically load in English, including the navigation menu and settings options.

How to Change Language on RedNote App (Android)
The steps for Android are very similar to those on iPhone. Here’s how to change the language:
1. Open the RedNote app on your Android device.
2. Tap the menu icon in the top left corner.
3. Tap the Settings icon. On the next screen, tap Settings again.

4. Tap the Language option, which is the first option on the list.
5. Choose English and tap the Save button (unlike iPhone where the app automatically reloads, you must save your language settings here).

You Might Still See Some Videos With Chinese Titles
While RedNote has plenty of English videos (some even with English and Chinese subtitles or captions), you may still encounter videos that are entirely in Chinese or have Chinese titles. This is because the app is primarily used in China, and you might be seeing regionally popular content.
Also, RedNote doesn’t fully support English. For posts with Chinese captions, there isn’t a direct translation option within the app. But don’t worry! You can still understand the content using these simple workarounds:
Translate RedNote on Android

- Circle to Search: This handy feature lets you translate text directly from an image. Just circle the text you want to translate, and RedNote will provide a translation.
- Google Lens: If Circle to Search isn’t available, take a screenshot of the post. Then, open the Google Lens app and upload the screenshot. Google Lens will accurately translate the Chinese text.
Translet RedNote on iPhone
- Live Text: Take a screenshot of the post. Open the screenshot in your Photos app, and tap and hold on the Chinese text. Your iPhone will automatically detect and translate it.
- Third-Party Translation Apps: Download a translation app like Google Translate or Microsoft Translator. These apps allow you to take a picture of the text and get an instant translation.
You can also use Google Lens on your iPhone through the Google Photos app. Plus, we have a cool hack to enable Circle to Search on iPhone, just in case.
With these tools, you can enjoy all the content RedNote has to offer, even if it’s not in English!
