Until now, there has been no way to change the default save location in the Snipping Tool. Users have been asking for a way and had to resort to various workarounds. With Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4291 (KB5043166) for the Beta Channel, Microsoft is finally allowing you to change the screenshot save location in the Snipping Tool on Windows – meaning no more tedious workarounds.
However, this update is currently only available for Windows Insider users, and you might need to wait a month or so for it to arrive in the stable version. But if you’re already on the Windows Insider Beta or Release Preview Channels, make sure to check for the latest Windows Update and Snipping Tool version 11.2408.15.0 or newer to access this feature.
Here’s how you can change the default location in the Snipping Tool:
- Open the Snipping Tool app on your Windows computer.
- Tap on the 3-dotted icon (meatball menu) and select the Settings option.
- Under Automatically save original screenshots (ensure it’s turned on), you’ll see Screenshots are saved to option. Tap the Change link.
- Choose your desired folder and click Select Folder.
