Getting Started with the Missing Kids Board
When you start the game, look for a missing kids board near your campfire. This board shows you all four children you need to find, but it won’t open up all at once. You need to reach a certain camp level to open them one by one. When all of the kids’ posters are available on the board, you can click on any kid’s picture, and you will see a red arrow at the top of your screen. This arrow will point to where the kid is hiding.

If you craft a Compass, the direction will also show up on it. This makes finding them much easier. We have the crafting recipes if you want to check out how to make them in the game.
Find and Rescue All Missing Kids in 99 Nights in the Forest
In total, there are four missing kids in the game. Each missing kid is locked in a cave behind a colored door. To open these doors, you need special keys. But you won’t find these keys just lying around. You have to fight dangerous mobs that guard each cave to get the keys. The fight will get harder as you save more kids. The first rescue is pretty easy, but the last one is really tough. Here are the mobs that are guarding each kid in the game:
| Key Color | Missing Kid | How to Rescue |
|---|---|---|
| Red Key | ![]() Dino Kid | Fight 5 wolves with red collars |
| Blue Key | ![]() Kraken Kid | Fight 4 Alfa Wolves with blue collars |
| Yellow Key | ![]() Squid Kid | Fight 2 regular Bears |
| Black Key | ![]() Koala Kid | Fight 6 Alfa Bears |
Now, here are the detailed explanations on how to find and rescue all the missing kids in 99 Nights in the Forest:
How to Find and Rescue Dino Kid
The Dino Kid will be your first rescue mission. You can start looking for this kid right away, but you need to upgrade your campfire to level 3 first. Without this upgrade, you won’t be able to reach the cave location.
Once your fire is big enough, you can follow the arrow on your screen. You will find a small hill with a metal gate, plus wolves with red collars surrounding this area. You need to fight them, so make sure you have a weapon ready. Check nearby chests for a revolver or spear. You can also trade with the Pelt Trader on the second day, if you have animal pelts.

When fighting the wolves, aim for headshots. They do way more damage than body shots. After you kill all five wolves, one of them will drop a red key. Pick it up and use it on the big red lock at the cave entrance. Go down the stairs and you’ll find the Dino Kid inside a room. There’s also a treasure chest here as a bonus reward. Put the kid in your pouch and carry them back to your campfire. Once you set them down near the fire, they’ll walk to the edge of the light and set up a tent.
How to Find and Rescue Kraken Kid
For the Kraken Kid, you need to upgrade your campfire to level 4. This kid is a little harder to rescue because you are going to be fighting Alfa Wolves instead of the regular ones. They are stronger, faster, and hit harder.

The process is the same, though. Follow the arrow to find the cave location. It will walk you to a small playground, but be careful because the Alfa Wolves with blue collars are surrounding the area. Fight them all and collect the blue key that drops. Use this key to open the blue lock and rescue the Kraken Kid. Bring healing items too, just in case.
How to Find and Rescue Squid Kid
Before rescuing the final two kids, your campfire needs to reach level 5. This will unlock the entire map and let you reach the furthest locations. The arrow this time will take you to an open area with some huts around. You will see another cave there, guarded by 2 regular Bears.

While there are only two of them, they are much tougher than Wolves. They have more health and deal massive damage with each hit. You’ll need powerful weapons like the Morning Star, Tactical Shotgun, or maybe a Raygun to take them down efficiently. After defeating both bears, collect the yellow key and use it to rescue the Squid Kid.
How to Find and Rescue Koala Kid
The Koala Kid is the hardest to rescue in the game. You have to fight 6 Alfa Bears, and this fight can easily overwhelm new players. Take your time with this battle. Don’t rush in and try to fight all six at once. Pick them off one by one if possible. Use the terrain to your advantage and always aim for headshots. After this intense fight, you’ll get the black key to rescue the final child.

What Happens After Each Rescue
Every time you rescue a kid, they add a tent to your campfire area. This shows your progress and makes your base look more lived-in. More importantly, each rescued child increases your day counter multiplier by +1. This helps you survive all 99 nights more quickly.
The kids will walk around your campfire area and set up their tents at random spots near the fire’s edge. They’re safe once they’re back at your base, so don’t worry about protecting them. Finding and rescuing all missing kids in 99 Nights in the Forest takes patience and preparation, but with this guide, I hope that you can help them way more easily!
