Are you getting that annoying “Please close Interception before starting the game” message when you’re trying to play Fortnite? This error shows up for a lot of players, and it’s really frustrating when you just want to play. The good news is you can fix it yourself without waiting for Epic Games to sort it out.

How to Fix Fortnite Please Close Interception Error

What Is the Fortnite Please Close Interception Error?

This error happens because Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) thinks Interception might be cheating software. Even if you’re totally innocent, the system blocks it anyway. Interception is basically a program that handles keyboard and mouse inputs differently than normal. Some people use it for accessibility reasons, like if they have trouble using regular controls. Cheaters sometimes use similar tools to create scripts and bots.

So when Easy Anti-Cheat sees Interception running, it panics. The anti-cheat can’t tell if you’re using it for good stuff or bad stuff, so it just blocks everything to play it safe. The worst part is that even if you never installed Interception yourself, it might have come bundled with other software you downloaded. So you might not even know why you’re getting this error.

How to Fix Fortnite Please Close Interception Error

Here are a couple of methods you can try to fix the “Please Close Interception” error in Fortnite:

Method 1: Uninstall Interception Driver

This is the main fix that works for most people. You’ll need to download the official Interception files and use them to remove the driver from your computer. Follow this step-by-step guide:

  1. Open your browser and go to the official Interception GitHub page.
  2. On the right side, under Releases, click the latest release.
  3. Download the file named interception.zip. Once the zip file is downloaded, right-click it and select Extract All.
  4. Open Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator”
  5. In the command window, type the following to go to your extracted folder:
    • cd “%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\Interception\command line installer”
    • Change the path if you extracted the files elsewhere. You can press the Tab key to auto-complete folder names. Then, press Enter.
  6. On the next line, copy and paste this:
    • install-interception.exe /uninstall
    • Then press Enter.
  7. You should see a message confirming the driver has been uninstalled.
  8. Restart your computer to finish the uninstallation process.

After restarting the PC, the error should have been fixed, and you can go back to playing Fortnite.

Method 2: Repair Easy Anti-Cheat

Sometimes the first method doesn’t work, or the problem comes back later. If that happens, you can try fixing Easy Anti-Cheat itself:

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher and go to your Library.
  2. Find Fortnite, then click the three dots next to it.
  3. Select Manage from the dropdown menu.
  4. Navigate through the folders in this order:
    • FortniteGames → Binaries → Win64 → EasyAntiCheat
  5. In the EasyAntiCheat folder, find the file named:
    • EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe
  6. Right-click on the file and choose Create shortcut.
  7. You’ll now have a shortcut (likely named: EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup – Shortcut). Right-click on the shortcut and choose Properties.
  8. In the Target field, go to the very end after the last quote, add:
    • (space)repair
    • Example: “C:\Path\to\EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe” repair
  9. Click OK to save the changes.
  10. Close the Epic Games Launcher completely.
  11. Run the shortcut you just edited. If prompted, allow administrator permission (click “Yes”).
  12. Restart your computer.

Although it’s quite a long process, some players have reported that this method has fixed the Please Close Interception error in Fortnite.

Other Games With the Same Problem

This isn’t just a Fortnite thing. Any game that uses Easy Anti-Cheat can have this same problem. Games like Apex Legends, Dead by Daylight, and Rust all use EAC. So, they might give you the same error message. The good news is that these same fixes work for those games, too. Just follow the exact same steps, and you should be good to go!
