Link preview on WhatsApp is a great way to get a quick overview of content but the feature seems to be not working for many users. Restarting the phone or updating WhatsApp may not help but we have a unique solution that fixes the WhatsApp link preview problem.

Why Isn’t My WhatsApp Showing Link Previews?

There could be several reasons why WhatsApp isn’t showing link previews. These include:

While these are just possible causes, one thing to check before trying other solutions is whether the link preview feature has been disabled on your WhatsApp account. Yes, there is an option hidden in the settings.

  1. Open WhatsApp, tap the three-dot icon (kebab menu) in the top right corner and go to Settings.
  2. Head to Privacy > Advanced and make sure the Disable link previews option is not turned on.

If everything seems fine, you can proceed with the solutions below.

1. The Quick Edit Trick

This is a tried-and-tested solution that can work until WhatsApp officially rolls out a fix for the link preview issue. Here’s what to do:

  1. Send the link as usual to your friend.
  2. If no preview appears, tap and hold the message, then tap the three-dot icon (kebab menu) and select Edit.
  3. Tap at the end of the link and delete the last character of the URL.
  4. Wait a few seconds for the preview to appear. Once it shows up, retype the deleted character.
  5. Finally, hit the Send button.

This method should restore the link preview on WhatsApp. Alternatively, you can try typing any letter at the end of the URL (while in Edit mode) and once the preview appears, delete the extra letter and hit Send.

2. Try WhatsApp Beta

It’s possible that the WhatsApp link preview is not showing on the WhatsApp version you’re using. By the time WhatsApp fixes the issue, you could be stuck without previews. In that case, joining the WhatsApp Beta program and installing the latest version might solve the problem.

If the Beta program is full, you can download and install the latest WhatsApp Beta APK from APK Mirror.

If you’re not comfortable downloading WhatsApp from a third-party source, try the workaround below, which doesn’t require installation.
