Discord has finally introduced a much-awaited and much-requested feature—message forwarding. This feature allows you to forward messages directly within Discord, making it much easier to share information without needing to screenshot or copy text. Sounds basic but yeah, it wasn’t available in Discord. You can now forward messages seamlessly across channels, servers, and DMs with just a few clicks.

What Is Message Forwarding on Discord
The message forwarding feature on Discord allows you to share any message directly with other recipients within the app. You can forward messages to individual users, group chats, or server channels without needing manual workarounds like screenshots or copying text. This feature is available globally for users on iOS, Android, and desktop/web versions of Discord, making it more convenient to keep everyone informed across different servers or DMs.
How to Forward a Message on Discord
Forwarding messages on Discord is simple. Follow these steps:
- Select the Message: To forward a message, start by hovering over the message you want to share. On Android or iPhone, long press the message to select it. You will know it’s selected when it is highlighted and shows additional options.
- Click the Forward Icon: You will see a forward icon (usually next to the reaction icons). Click on it to proceed. If you don’t see the option, make sure your Discord app is updated to the latest version.
- Choose Recipients: You can then select up to five recipients. Recipients can include individual friends, group DMs, or specific server channels.
- Send: Once you’ve selected the recipients, click the send button, and your message will be forwarded instantly.
Things to Know
- Share to Only 5 People at Once: You can forward a message to up to five recipients, whether they are individuals, group chats, or channels.
- Message Marked as Forwarded: The forwarded message will be marked as such, indicating to recipients that the message was forwarded.
- Original Server Information: You can check the server message is coming from and when it was sent. Select the message to directly navigate to that server.
- Forwarding from Private Servers: If you forward a message from a private server, only users who are part of that server will see the content. Otherwise, the forwarded message will not be accessible.
- Original Sender’s Name Not Shared: The name of the person who originally sent the message will not be shared, maintaining their privacy. However, users can click on the server name and navigate to the channel to check the author’s name themselves.
- Cannot Share to Announcement Channel: Currently, you can share to any channel that you can access except the announcement channels.
- Can You Prevent Others from Forwarding Your Messages: Currently, there is no option to prevent other users from forwarding your messages. Any message in a server or DM can be forwarded by others.
- Forwarded Message will Not Update When Original Message is Updated: If the original message is edited later, the forwarded message will not update. It will still show you the original message.
Final Thoughts
With Discord’s message forwarding feature, you can now share messages more easily than ever before. It simplifies the process, respects privacy, and is easy to use. Although there are some limitations—like the five-recipient cap and the lack of original author information—the benefits far outweigh them for everyday use.
