How to Install Gemini Live on Any Android Phone

Google is rolling out Gemini Live, a new feature that enables dynamic, back-and-forth conversations. Unlike traditional voice assistants, Gemini Live offers a more human-like tone and conversational style—it’s almost like having an AI on a phone call. Currently, this feature is available on select Pixel and Samsung phones, but there are workarounds to get Gemini Live on any Android device.

To use Gemini Live, you’ll need a Gemini Advanced subscription, which costs $20 per month. Fortunately, if you haven’t subscribed before, you can enjoy the first month for free, making it easier to explore this feature without commitment.

Keep in mind that these workarounds may not be compatible with all smartphones. For instance, we were unable to get Gemini Live working on our Nothing Phone (2a) Plus. Therefore, it’s wise not to subscribe to Gemini Advanced solely to try this feature—use the free trial if available to test compatibility first.

Getting Started with Gemini Live:

  1. Subscribe to Gemini Advanced: Head over to Google Gemini and subscribe. You can start with a free month trial if available.
  2. Install/Update the Gemini App: Ensure the Gemini app is installed and up-to-date (version 1.0.662093464 or later) via the Google Play Store.
  3. Sideload Google App: If the required version 15.33.36.28 or later is not yet available on the Play Store on your phone, you can download and install the APK file from APK Mirror.
  4. Enable Voice Chat: Open the Gemini app, you should see the voice icon at the bottom right corner. If the voice chat button isn’t visible, try force-stopping the app and reopening it.

Now simply tap on the Gemini Live icon on the bottom-right corner to begin talking to the voice chatbot.

Gemini Live is currently available only in English and is gradually rolling out, so if you don’t see it right away, be patient—it might take some time. Interestingly, OpenAI also released a similar feature in their ChatGPT 4.0 update. We’ve tested both Gemini Live and the ChatGPT 4.0 voice mode, and here’s our comparison of the two voice bots based on our experience.
