How to Set Photo for Incoming Calls on iPhone and Android

Seeing only the name and number of contact when they call you is slightly boring, especially on the huge smartphones these days. You can make the incoming call screen look interesting and different by showing a contact picture. So whenever someone calls you, their assigned picture will show up next to their name and number. Let’s learn how to set photos for incoming calls on iPhone, Android, and Samsung. You will also learn how to set full-screen photo on caller ID.

How to Set Photo on Incoming Calls on iPhone

There are three ways to put a picture on contacts when you receive a call from them on your iPhone.

Method 1: From the Contacts App

Follow these steps to add a contact picture on iPhone:

1. Launch the Contacts app on your iPhone.

2. Open the contact for which you want to set a photo.

3. Tap on the Edit button at the top and press the Add photo option.

4. You will get different ways to put a picture for the contact. You can capture a new photo, select a picture from the gallery, add a memoji/emoji, or even set an alphabet as a contact photo. To choose a photo from the gallery, tap on the Gallery icon and select your preferred photo.

5. Adjust the photo by moving and zooming it so that the appropriate part fits inside the circle. Tap on Choose.

6. Add a filter to your photo on the screen that shows up and tap on Done. Again, tap on Done to save the changes.

7. Tap on Done to set the iPhone contact picture. Repeat the steps for other contacts.

Method 2: From the Photos App

You can also set a photo for a contact number from the Photos app as shown below:

1. Launch the Photos app on your iPhone.

2. Open the photo that you want to set as a contact picture.

3. Tap on the Send icon at the bottom and select Assign to Contact from the menu.

4. Select the contact for which you want to show a picture on incoming calls.

5. Adjust the picture inside the circle and select Choose.

6. Tap on Done or Update to set a photo for incoming calls.

How to Enable Full Screen Photo for Incoming Calls on iPhone

Method 1: Enable Full-Screen Caller ID

By default, when you receive a call on your iPhone, you will see a small banner at the top containing the number and contact picture that you set using one of the above methods. But if you want to show a full-screen photo for incoming calls, you must first enable full-screen caller ID on your iPhone as shown below.

1. Open Settings on your iPhone.

2. Go to Phone followed by Incoming calls.

3. Select Full Screen. That’s it. Now the contact picture will appear in full-screen view on your iPhone for incoming calls.

Method 2: Make the Photo Vertical

If the contact photo doesn’t appear full-screen on your iPhone or leaves an empty space after enabling the full-screen mode in the above method, you must edit the picture and save it in vertical format. For that, follow these steps:

1. Open the Photos app on your iPhone and open the photo to set it as a contact photo.

2. Tap on the three-dot icon at the top and select Duplicate to create a copy of the original picture. If you don’t do so, your original picture will be cropped.

3. Now, open the duplicate photo and tap on Edit.

4. Tap on the Crop icon followed by the Aspect ratio icon.

5. Slightly, scroll on the list to see the available sizes. Then, tap on 5:3 size and select Vertical. Tap on Done.

Note: If the full-screen photo doesn’t appear correctly for incoming calls, try other sizes in Step 4 and see which one works perfectly.

6. Now, tap on the Send icon and select Assign to Contact from the Share sheet.

7. Select the contact and adjust the picture in the circle. Tap on Choose.

8. Tap on Update to save the changes.

Method 3: Update Existing Photo

If you have already set a contact photo and it doesn’t appear in a full-screen view using any of the above methods, you must update the photo. For that, simply move the existing photo a bit or set the photo again using any of the methods shown in the section How to set photo on incoming calls.

How to Set Photo on Incoming Call on Android

To put a picture for contact on incoming calls on Android phones, follow these steps:

1. Open the Contacts app on your Android phone.

2. Tap on the Edit (Pencil) icon at the top followed by Add picture.

3. Select Gallery and choose a photo saved on your phone as a contact photo. You can even capture a new photo using Camera, select from Google Photos, or choose an illustration offered by Google.

4. Adjust the photo to fit inside the circle by moving or zooming it. Finally, tap on Choose.

5. Tap on Save to set a photo for a contact number.

Tip: Stock Android phones do not offer a native method to set full-screen caller ID. You will have to use third-party apps for the same.

How to Set Photo on Incoming Calls on Samsung Galaxy Phones

Follow these steps to add a contact picture on Samsung Galaxy phones:

1. Open the Samsung Contacts app on your phone.

2. Open the contact for which you want to set a contact picture.

3. Tap on the Edit button.

4. Tap on the Camera icon at the top and select Gallery to choose a picture from your phone’s gallery. Or select Camera to capture a new photo. You can even set an AR Emoji or sticker as a contact photo.

5. Adjust the picture inside the selection circle and tap on Done. Then, tap on Save.

How to Set Full-Screen Photo on Incoming Calls on Samsung Galaxy Phones

To enable full-screen photo caller ID for incoming calls on Samsung Galaxy phones, you must use the call background feature. To change the call background for one contact, follow these steps:

1. In the Samsung Contacts app, open the contact for which you want to show a full-screen photo on incoming calls.

2. Tap on Edit and press the View more option.

3. Tap on Call background followed by Background.

4. Tap on the (+) Add icon and choose Select from Gallery.

5. Select the photo to set as a full-screen contact picture. Move the photo to adjust it and then tap on Set as call background.

6. Tap on Save. Similarly, set the full-screen picture for other contacts.

1. Will others be able to see the contact picture?

No. The contact pictures set using the above methods will not show to other users. It will only be visible on your phone and your synced devices.

2. Why can’t I add a photo to my contacts?

If you are unable to add a contact picture, make sure the contact isn’t saved in the SIM storage instead, it should be saved in either Phone storage or in a compatible cloud service like Gmail (Android) and iCloud (iPhone). Also, check the photo is of the appropriate size. It shouldn’t be too small or unsupported formal like GIF.
